how much trash do you produce each day?

Challenge 4- For one full day (from the time you wake up until you go to sleep again), carry with you all the trash you produce in one day. Comment below about your experience and describe how much, and what, you ended up with at the end of the day.

  1. I woke up on Sunday and immediately got a trash bag. I went to the bathroom and put the tiolet paper I had used in there, and I was also on my period, so I had to put that waste in the bag as well. I ate cereal for breakfast, and added my paper bowl to the trash. I left my trash bag at home though because I had church. I didn't produce any waste there though, so I was good. Then my family got KFC and I ate a chicken thigh, and put the bone in my bag, along with another paper plate, and the containers that held the chicken and mashed potatoes. I ate a popsicle and put the wrapper in the bag as well. I went to the bathroom again and added that to the bag. For dinner we ate turkey burgers and I used another paper plate. By the end of the night my trash bag was getting heavy. That was all the trash I produced on Sunday, but I realized I could reduce that a lot. I could use plastic plates instead of paper, and rewash them, and by not eating out, and eating food from the house I could also reduce the trash I produced.

  2. I chose to do this on Saturday the 18th. It was very insightful to say the least. I learned just how much stuff I throw away each day. I woke up on Saturday morning at 8:20AM. Fortunately I did not have to throw away anything that I used in my bathroom to get cleaned up. I actually ended up using my car's trunk to put my trash in. It was mostly coke cans and paper towels though. I figured that this was the most logical approach since I am almost always mobile. I ate out for lunch and dinner and I ate at places that washed their napkins so I did not have to throw it away since they got reused. So really, the only trash I produced was cans of coke which I automatically recycle since Coppell actually gives me an incentive to recycle. The paper towels were for a variety of reasons from blowing my nose to cleaning my car's windows with Windex. All in all, it made me more conscious of what I produce on a daily basis.

  3. On may 21 I carried my trash around with me all day. To my surprise my trash added up to two gum wrappers, and that is it. I thought that I was going to make more trash then that but I didint, everything else that I drank or ate from that day was in a glass or plate that i could wash. Since it wasent very much trash at all it was pretty easy.

  4. For a full day I tried to reduce as much trash as I possibly could. So In the morning when I woke up I ate only fruits and used a reusable bottle to drink out of so I didn't have anything to throw away in the morning. In the afternoon I went out to eat at chick fil a so I had to throw all that trash in my bag. It was already a hassle to carry out that little of trash, So for dinner i tried to cut down on more trash and eat at home, so I made salad and grilled some chicken on the grill outside, so i had to throw away that packaging that the chicken was in but that as all i had to throw away. So over the course of a day, I didn't have as much trash as i thought but even at that carrying around just a little bit of trash is not fun what so ever. It wasn't heavy it was just in the way all the time, so it kind of relates to people throwing trash away all the time, and it has to go to land fills and it just gets in the way of everything.

  5. On May 24th 2013, I carried around my trash from the morning to the afternoon. I could not believe the massive size of my bag. I had wrappers from Jimmy Johns, Styrofoam lunch tray, clear wrappers, cherry seeds, milk bottles, ketchup and mustard packets, plastic utensils, Sonic root 44 drink cup with straws, egg shells, ramen packets, fruit peels, and much more. It was just really amazing to see how much trash I produced in one day. It was funny when I started this project because I had my plastic bag around my backpack and people would look at me funny. I told my friends in other science classes about the project and they seem to have taken interest because they constantly reminded me to put my trash in my bag. It was pretty neat experience to do this project with the help of my friends. By the end of the day, I sorted out my trash to find a massive pile of plastic and Styrofoam. I guess it really taught me to reduce in what I use (mostly because they can be replaced in a more eco-friendly way) and eat better. Many of the trash were from food wrappers, which were not even healthy foods. In conclusion, I had a very successful and knowledgeable day.

  6. So collecting trash that i used for one day seemed easy and no that bad which is why i picked it but dang. I'm white trash. By the end of the day i had banana peels and silverware, plastic sacks, and wrappers. It really wasn't as bad as i thought it would be but it was still disgusting to the point that i think im going to try and reduce my wrapper intake. I will try and reuse my brown sacks for lunch since they dont really get dirty enough to throw away. I will use reusable containers rather than plastic ones that end up in the trash. I think the worst part was the day i carried this around in my backpack (weird looks)was the day i ate the most fresh food, meaning i had rotting apples and bananas in my bag all day. It made me think more about my impact on the Earth via trash.

  7. My experience with challenge 4 was pretty interesting to say the least. Having to carry around a bunch of smelly containers, wrappers in a plastic bag was funny, but I learned just how much trash I accumulate in each day. And that I need to try and reduce my impact on the environment. I ended up with...
    1 Styrofoam cup for coffee
    4 empty egg shells
    1 banana peel
    2 protein bar wrappers (vegan)
    Plastic Tupperware (lunch)
    Chipotle to-go container
    Hefty plastic plastic (dinner)

  8. I chose to do my blog post over the option of carrying around all the trash I use for one day. It was a very eye opening and interesting experience. I put all my trash in my backpack, and I was amazed at how quickly my bag filled up. I have been trying to use less waste since our previous project, but it really showed me how much I still use. In the morning I ate eggs and bacon on a paper plate and used a paper towel, so I put it in my bag. During third period I blew my nose and had to pout the Kleenex in my bag. For lunch I had to put my paper bag, little baggies, and water bottle in my bag. For dinner I ate at chipotle so I had to put the bowl container in my bag. By the time I went to bed my backpack was nearly full. It is amazing how much waste we use in one day per person. If I could reduce the amount of trash I use, I could be doing my part, and become more of a hummingbird.

  9. I actually cheated a little bit. I tried my hardest to not produce a lot of trash. Even just thinking about how much trash you produce and making a conscious effort to not produce so much trash takes a lot of effort. I did my day on thursday. I am actually really proud of what I ended up with and how my thought process changed because of the experiment. I don't eat breakfast so I have no trash from the morning. I added a piece of old homework into my bag first period. At lunch I added a peanut and strawberry jelly sandwich wrapper. I use my contigo water bottle so I have cut out all of the plastic water bottle waste. I added a piece of paper into my bag 6th period. At dinner I added leftover macaroni and cheese and some bread crust. This experiment especially inspired me when I eat. Today we take as much food as we want and throw away the leftovers and what we don't eat. I was inspired to only put food on my plate that I was 100% sure I would eat. It's amazing to see all of what we accumulate through only one day. Even though I made a conscious effort to reduce my waste I still ended up with about a ziplock baggie worth.

  10. I did this challenge on Saturday, May 25, and was genuinely surprised at how hard it was. My strategy was to get a plastic grocery bag and use that to hold all of my trash. I tried to stay close to home for the entire day to make the challenge as easy as possible.

I thought that I would be able to suffice with one trash bag for the day, but I quickly learned that one trash bag simply wouldn't be enough. I don't usually eat a large breakfast, so I didn't have much trash to begin the day with. I do, however, snack a lot. I had tons of little bags of fruit snacks and Gatorade bottles that quickly took up most of the space in my Kroger bag. I went to grab some takeout food from Chipotle for lunch and then added that to my total amount of trash for the day. Like I said earlier, I didn't leave my house much that day, so my trash mostly consisted of what I ate. As the trash accumulated over the day, the most common thing was plastic bottles or cups. This is why drinking containers would probably be the easiest for me to cut down on. I had a few things like gum wrappers and other paper goods, but the plastic bottles just take up much more space in the bags. I ended up with two full grocery bags of trash at the end of the day, and probably could cut that total down to less than one full bag if I really tried to. I had napkins and things like applesauce containers, but all of my trash had something to do with food or eating.

After the whole day was over, there was a significant amount of trash. I thought that I would have more than I ended up with, as most of the trash comes from food and food related items. I did get some weird looks as I carried around my Kroger bags of trash, but I only had to explain myself once, and it was to my parents. This was an interesting experiment, and I am very glad that I did it. To think that I produce that much trash each day and about how much it adds up to over time is astonishing. There are things that I could cut down on, but other contributors are much larger than I would be able to fix myself.

  11. I was really surprised on the amount of trash I built up in the bag that I carried around wasn't as much as I thought it would end up being. At the start of the day, there wasn't too much. I only had just a straw from breakfast and some other little scraps. At lunch of course I got some zip lock sandwich bags I had to throw away. I also had a few gum wrappers throughout the day I put it in there, a snack wrapper, and a drink from Sonic that I got after school. What was worse though was when my family decided to go out to eat at a fast food place for dinner. I had to put the container that the food was in and the Styrofoam cup all into that bag as well. However surprisingly this amount of trash didn't even fill up a target grocery sack that I carried around all day. I thought that surely I would fill that one bag up. I guess because I use reusable plates, bowls, and cups all the time along with a reusable lunch bag is why I didn't have much big pieces of trash. It was mostly small scraps like floss, straws, napkins, Kleenexes, a wrapper, etc. I think that this little exercise made me realize how much even little pieces of trash we throw away everyday can build up to be something harmful for our planet.

  12. At breakfast I had no trash, but at lunch I got quite a few looks and questions when I put my trash in a sack in my backpack instead of the trash can. My family thought I was completely crazy while keeping my Chipotle trash, but after I explained why they were understanding. I was open and okay with answering questions, but the looks were a little odd. At the end of the day I ended up with 5 napkins (lunch, painting, and dinner), a styrofoam plate (pizza), a plastic fork, a burrito bowl (chipotle), a small guacamole cup, and a paper cup. This isn't as much as I expected, but on paper the list looks a lot longer.

  13. The experience was very humbling and I really enjoyed it. There was so many things that I did not know up until the day that I did this. Honestly before doing this I though that maybe I threw away maybe 10 oz. of trash a day. Boy was I wrong with that because after carrying my trash around for a whole day I collected the following: 4 plastic water bottles, a banana peal, tin foil, 5 plastic baggies, 2 brown paper sacks, a Lunchable, a paper cup, 3 leftovers from my main meals, 2 granola bar wrappers, and finally mustard packets. I was shocked after I collected all of this and was reflecting on it. I never paid attention to how much trash I took in one day. This changed my outlook on the things that I need that contain trash. I will think twice before I throw something in the trash again.

  14. Well it's 11:21 pm. and I started collecting my trash since 8:00 this morning. The fact that I hard to carry my trash throughout the day bothered me a little bit, suddenly I realized that this could be a good idea on how much trash I accumulate throughout the day. Morning started off with a good start, I only collected some egg shells that I had boiled, and the oatmeal didn't have to be trashed since I got it of from a bucket. My mom looked at me funny and thought I was crazy, but I explained it to her and that was the end of that conversation. As the hours passed I collected some other things such as apple and banana peals. My trash so far wasn't too full. During the day I collected a few water bottles, I tried using my cup to drink water so I didn't have to collect the plastic ones. I ended up eating my moms cooking so I didn't have that much plastic containers or wraps to collect, the only thing I had was the items that I have mentioned. Then I went to work and that's when I had to leave my trash at my house just because I didn't want my boss to see it, so I tried not eating or drinking besides from my water bottle that I brought. worked till 10 and so far that's the only thing I had collected throughout the day. I'm glad I did this experiment because it actually made me realize how much trash I'm producing throughout the day.

  15. Last Wednesday I decided I would carry around all the trash I used. When I first woke up I had pop tarts and had to carry around the pop tart wrapper along with the napkin I used. I just put both in my pocket and went along with my day. When lunch time came I had much more trash. Luckily though I was now using my reusable water bottle so I didn't have to carry around a bunch of plastic water bottles. I did however have a lot of plastic bags, another napkin, and a brown lunch sack to carry around now. I decided to be useful and put all my trash in my brown lunch sack. This was helpful to me and also led to a bunch of people asking what I was doing. I think these conversations with people really made them stop and think about how they could be greener. It also made me think too about just how much trash I produce a day and how there are so many ways I could cut back on trash. Later that night my family had pizza and I carried around my napkin and the pizza box until bed. It was an interesting day to say the least and made me along with others stop and think about how our choices effect others.

  16. At the end of this experiment, I was quite surprised at the amount of trash I produce in one day! It all started at breakfast with a couple of napkins and an egg carton. My allergy medicine comes in plastic and foil wrappers so I had to add that to the list as well. As the day moved on, I collected some tissues from blowing my nose (gross I know...). For lunch I had Subway, which is a ton of trash. My sandwich bag, napkins, sandwich paper wrapping, drink cup, and bag of chips added a lot to my bag. It is alarming to think that every time someone eats Subway that they put that much trash into the landfills!! Then came dinner, which wasn't too much trash; some napkins and plastic wrappers. At the end of the day, I was very shocked at how much trash I produced in one day. I now see how easy and important it is to produce less trash!

  17. For challenge 4 I collected and saved all of my trash from Saturday May 25, 2013. I found it some what difficult to remember to collect and carry around the trash I produced. At the end of the day, I had a decent amount of trash saved up. In my trash bag, was a fast food bag and cup, a bottle of water, a good amount of used napkins, food that wasn't eaten, and random plastic and paper objects. The majority of my trash bag was filled with things I had thrown away throughout the day. Having all of my trash from one day in that one bag put into perspective of how much I actually throw away every single day. It made me realize that I throw out to much, I create to much trash. I think I am going to really start trying to not make such a large amount of garbage.

  18. I decided to accept challenge 4 and carry around my trash Friday May 24th. When I first saw this challenge, I thought it was going to be really dumb and I wasn't going to have much trash at all. Man was I wrong. It actually turned out to be a very eye opening and humbling experience. So Friday morning I woke up and had a glass or orange juice and a granola bar so already I had the granola wrapper and I usually wouldn't have the orange juice carton but I finished it off so I had that in my bag too. That morning I also cleaned out my baseball bag before headed up to Oklahoma for the day for a MLB pre-draft workout. I then added a bunch of old water bottles and other stuff to my bag. After arriving in Edmond, OK, my dad and I had McDonald's for lunch so that trash was added to my bag. A couple plastic water bottles were also added to my bag as I threw them away after drinking them at the workout. That night, I had Chipotle so that trash was also added to my bag of trash. After the long day, I had a lot more trash in my bag than I would have guessed. It really made me realize the impact I was making on the environment. This experience will make me think twice about throwing everything away now.

  19. I went through a usual day for me and collected all my trash into a trash bag and by the end of the day I actually had a lot more trash then I would of expected. From when I woke up to when I went to sleep I was kind of disgusted with how much trash I personally used that day. It made me think that if I used that much trash a day that everyone is probably using that much or even more. Knowing that throwing away a lot of trash isn't good for our environment I think I need to not go out as much as I do anymore and if I do bring a container with me to put my food in instead of them giving me plastic bags and having me throw those away. I'm glad we were able to do this experiment because I thought it was cool to see how much trash I actually use in a day and made me realize I need to act now and make a difference in our world today by cutting back on all the trash I have.

  20. So for me, i thought carrying my trash around would be the easiest of the tasks for me to complete but in reality, it was a rather challanging and honestly made me consider how much we as individuals truly pollute our environment. So i chose to partake in this experience on Thursday, May 23rd. Because i never eat breakfast before school, there was no trash for me to collect. However, once i got to school, i purchased a bag of Gardettos and a water bottle. Upon completion of these objects, i put them into a plastic bag tht would be used to contain all objects of trash collected. The next time i had trash would be at lunch. I had a plate from the pizza i bought, a plastic bag that had a cookie in it, and a Gatorade bottle. That evening, i had chipotle for dinner after work. I had a plastic cup from my drink and a sheet of tin foil from my burrito. All in all, i think this experience truly helped me to realize the type of impacts we as humans are having on the environment and how we need to be more aware of the things we can cut back on to better help our planet.

  21. Carrying around my trash for one day was pretty gross, for reasons that I had the smell of the trash of whatever food I ate getting worse over time. I noticed the things I had the most of was plastic plates, I really didn’t realize how many plastic plates I use everyday. I also had a lot of water bottles, which were probably the second most things I had thrown away. The amount of plastic I go through everyday is ridiculous and I really didn’t notice until I carried around my trash for a day. This experience was an eye opener for me, the amount of trash I produce could be easily reduced, I could re-use plates instead of throwing away a plate I used once, or even use a plastic container and just wash it out after I eat something out of it. For the water bottles I think the best way for me to reduce the amount I throw away is to just keep drinking from my canteen, because for this challenge I didn’t drink from my canteen to see just how many water bottles I actually produced in one day. Doing this challenge helped me realize just how much of and what I am throwing away everyday. I will definitely try to reduce the amount of trash I use everyday to help make an impact on our earth everyday.

  22. At the start of the day I woke up and grabbed a kroger bag to begin my journey. Today I would be carrying around my trash and I was not exactly excited, because I know that I will probably have a lot of trash. I got to school and had a protein bar, so that was a first produced my first piece of trash for the day. Then i had a bottle of water, so that went in the bag too. so far people had not really thought much of the bag because they assumed it was a lunch bag, probably. After school my mom made lunch so the only trash from that was a plastic bottle i used for iced tea. Then later i want to tappys frozen yogurt and put my sticky paper cup in the bag. Since i work there my co workers were a little curious as to why i was carrying my trash around. I explained to them and they laughed. I realized that i dont have a lot of trash because i dont eat out as much. but i seem to use a lot of plastic bottles.

  23. I chose to do this challenge on Sunday 26th. Honestly I'm not surprised with how much trash I produced. It was absolutely ridiculous. I thought little things wouldn't matter, but boy was I wrong. I filled up an entire grocery bag which might not seem like too much but I stuffed it to the point where it got actually heavy. Graduation parties didn't really help my trash either because between the plastic plates, plastic silverware, plastic cups, and more the trash stacked up quick. I enjoyed this challenge because I am now more aware of how easily trash can be produced.

  24. I chose to do the trash challenge for the blog post. I woke up in the morning and grabbed a plastic grocery bag to collect all my trash. For breakfast i ate two granola bars and a banana so i put the remains of those in the bag. I then took a shower and through away the bottle afterwards because it was empty. before i left home, i grabbed a cooler full of gatorade and water because i had baseball all day. By the end of baseball, i had three water bottles and three gatorade bottles in the bag. I went home and had dinner, no trash was produced.

  25. Originally, I accepted the challenge on Thursday, but emergencies were issued where I required to trash my trash. So instead, I retook it on Monday the 27th. I went in the morning to help my mom at work, and immediately grabbed a plastic bag to accumulate all of my trash. The hours passed, and I went home with mother along with the bag filled of a water bottle and some plastic silverware. I went home to eat a banana and yogurt, insert the peel and yogurt cup into the bag. After that, things just went smoothly. I did my work while having the company of hungry fruit flies flying around the bag next to me. Honestly, I was only focused on doing my work and procrastinating. The last thing I remember putting in that bag was dental floss. After that, I've spend until 6:00 A.M. to finish my presentation, which is why I'm typing this blog while wearing a suit.
In short, I don't make up much trash.

  26. I decided to do this challenge on Sunday the 26th. I thought it would be interesting to see how much trash I actually throw away in a day. I usually do not think about how much trash I throw away but doing this really made me notice how quickly I throw away my trash. I woke up in the morning and finished off the carton of milk we had and I already had to throw that away and within an hour I woken up I already had trash in my trash bag. By about lunch time I did not make any trash because I ate a sandwich at home and was being very conscious about what trash I was creating. Then I left for my friends house and carried my bag along with me. When I got there I lost track of how much trash I was making because I had a soda and we were having snacks and before I knew it I had more trash in my trash bag and the day was far from over. I went to play sand volleyball with some friends and brought my bag of trash with me and everyone was asking me questions about why I had it and I explained it to them and it made them begin to think about how much trash they throw away as well. It made people more aware about how trash we all threw away in a day. I left and went back home and had dinner with my family friends and we grilled out and that created a lot of trash. I used a paper plate without even thinking and had to throw that away. I was conscious about my water bottle through and still am using my reusable water bottle and did not create that much trash. By the end of the day I looked in my trash bag and saw how much trash I actually had. I was shocked at how much trash I created in one day and remember how much the no impact man created in a week and I still made more than him in one day than he would in probably a month. I have now been more careful about how much trash I use and what reusable things I can use in place of.

  27. This challenge was actually easier than I thought it would be. I could not carry all the trash around all day, because I had to work. I used but one paper towel before I got off work, and that wasn't too hard to manage. After work I went to my house and made a sandwich, using a paper plate and an aluminum can. After that, my friends and I made Ramen noodles, and went to 7-11, where I got ice cream. We then went to T.G.I fridays, where I took all of the disposable items, like napkins and straws, and added those to the bag. By the end of the day, I only had those items, which did not weigh me down as much as I had expected, but I am sure that on most days, it would weigh me down much more.

  28. I decided to do this challenge on Sunday the 26th. It actually wasn't as difficult as I thought it would be. As I went through the day I collected all of my trash in a grocery bag. I found that most of the trash that I produce is paper towels. I also has a few plastic food wrappers, a water bottle, and other random pieces of trash. Most things that I use during the day are reusable or washable, but I guess I didn't realize how many paper towels am using and then throwing away in one day. Just the paper towels alone was a lot of trash. Now that I am more aware of the amount of trash I can produce in one day, I am more cautious when using things such as paper towels.

  29. Throughout the day on Tuesday I carried my trash around in a plastic bag, which ironically was actually more trash. During the morning I ate at Deli Man and I carried all the disposable items in my plastic bag. Then, when I got home from the senior awards, I made some food. I kept the plate in my bag adding to my pile. I didn't use many disposable things throughout the rest of the day, but I used a plastic water bottle or 2. Towards the end of the day I filled up 1 Tom Thumb plastic bag. Although this is not as much as I expected, I can still see that if I were to add my trash up every day, I would be shocked at how much I produce in say a week or a month. Things like water bottles and plates could be cut down by using reusable materials, reducing my trash production.

  30. Well carrying around trash throughout a whole day was quite a challenge. I decided to do the trash challenge on a saturday. This Saturday was not the best day because I went to golf with my friends. The problem with that though, is that we played at Las Colinas Country Club. Las Colinas Country Club has a strict dress code, so me showing up with a bag of trash attatched to my hip was not the best thing. I had to hide my trash sack, because I would not be able to play if they saw the trash attached to my hip. Overall however, the challenge was very eye opening because I never fully realized the amount of trash that I actually used. I will definitely make a strong effort in trying to reduce my environmental impact and trash amount.

  31. I did this challenge Saturday and it wasn't all too bad considering I've reduced my trash usage drastically over the last few years so it wasn't all that bad. First of all I didn't eat out that day so I didn't have to use any of that trash. My step dad cooked, I ate cereal for breakfast and when it was night time I only only ate when I came back and I ate cereal. It's not too far from my average trash consumption. The only trash I really had to carry was water bottles which I had used, but thanks to the weeks we had before I started using alot less water bottles so I had to only carry 2 bottles and a few tissues all day.

  32. I did this challenge last Saturday and i have to say it was pretty challenging. All through out the weekend I go through a lot of trash simply because i'm constantly out. In the morning i went ham and eggs and instead of throwing away my receipt, my straw rapper, and my napkin I had to be mindful and remember to save it. Then a little later i went to Bahama bucks and i had to remember to keep my cup and spoon. Then dinner was by far the worst considering i went to in n' out. At in n' out i had to collect the burger wrappers, my drink, my receipt, and the little card board boxes the burgers come in. After the entire day you wouldn't think that the trash would amount to that much but when you actually see the amount physically it is pretty surprising.

  33. I decided to take on this challenge on Saturday, May 26th. I was pleased to find out that I am more green than I thought. By the end of the day, I was virtually just carrying around a few wrappers from the food that I had eaten throughout the day. I started out the day by drinking a meal replacement shake and a few eggs. Later, I ate at jersey mikes. This did not add much to the bag, just a paper sack (which isn't actually trash) and the wrapping paper they use to hold the sandwich. For dinner, I ate spaghetti at home. My mom made the sauce from scratch, so I only added the box that the noodles came in. I also did not add any water bottles or anything like that because I was drinking out of my reusable bottles all day. Since I was hardly home all day, I did not have time to produce any more trash. All in all, the bag only weighed about 2 pounds by the end of the day, which was something I was proud of.

  34. This challenge was easier than I thought. Since I use a reusable lunch box, I just kept all my food wrappers in there. The two things that turned out to be difficult and annoying though were the tissues I had to carry around (and there were a TON) because of my cold, and fruit. I eat a lot of fruit and the banana peel and apple core started to smell. I think that I don't live a very wasteful life so this challenge wasn't as alarming for me, but I can definitely see how this could pile up.

  35. I chose the trash activity because honestly it peaked my curiosity the most. I participated in carrying my trash on Monday, Labor Day. I woke up on Monday and started out with cereal so because I used a bowl I could wash no trash was created yet. I had to work later that day and being there from 5pm to 1:10 am I didn't create any trash. At the end of my day I had a fruit roll up wrapper, trash from subway and a granola bar wrapper as well. As for my experience it was interesting but definitely something I want to try on another day when I'm running around more to see how much trash I really do produce. I definitely was more aware of how much trash I produce and my family. I really enjoyed this assignment because I feel like actually making myself participate made me understand how much trash we produce every day. No one really stops to think about where all this trash goes. If you think about it, trash is never gone, just placed somewhere else.

  36. I took on this challenge, on the 26th! I didn't have any trash until the afternoon, because I had breakfast at home, and I guess I really don't have as much trash as I thought! The only trash I ended up having was a tag I took off from a dress I bought, and whataburger at night! I went to a restaurant for lunch, so I didn't end up having trash from that either!

  37. I took this challenge on the 25th! it was a very helpful experiment. At first i didn't really see the point of it, but I really did take away a lot from this experiment. I ended the day with three plastic water bottles, a gum wrapper, a banana peal, and a chipotle bag. This might not seem like a whole lot, but just imagining that along with every other day of the year seems like a whole lot. It really made me aware on how much trash I've been putting into the landfills. I am going to try and limit the amount of trash I put into the trash and also try and recycle more. This project made me realize that one person really can make a huge difference, sometimes its just harder to see.

  38. When i chose this challenge i didn't think it would be hard at all, but once i started collecting trash after lunch, it was really annoying. I didn't realized how much trash someone can collect in just ONE day! It really shows how much waste we produce and how much of change and impact we can make to our environment just by properly disposing of the things we carry or recycle whatever is recyclable.

  39. I chose this challenge because I thought it might actually be kind of interesting to find out how much trash I collect throughout the day. I did this last Sunday. For breakfast I finished off a cereal box so I put the cereal box and the plastic bag from the cereal box inside my giant purse. After that I didn't eat till around 4 and I had a home made meal so no trash came from that. Other than the cereal box, I didn't collect any other trash except for toilet paper and tissues. I was very surprised at how many tissues I use throughout the day and I need to make sure I try to lessen that. Other than that, I was very disappointed at the amount of trash I collected because I was excited to carry around a lot of trash.

  40. I decided to choose this challenge because i know that i go through a lot of trash in one. I did the challenge last tuesday and i created the most trash when I was working surprisingly. I had a lot of receipts that i had to just throw away which is a waste. After realizing how much trash I used im going to try and produce less trash.

  41. When I took on this challenge the other day it was quite shocking on the amount of trash I collected in just that day alone. During school, I had a bottle of milk, a pack of peanuts, and a cheese stick for breakfast. Then at lunch I had a Gatorade, a salad, and used a bag with the following items to eat the salad; plastic spoon, plastic fork and napkin. Later at work, I ate food on a reusable dinner plate instead of a styrofoam to-go box, but I did have two small cartons of milk along with my meal. In all, it doesnt seem to be a ton of waste, but looking at a much longer time frame, one can begin to see the amount of damage they are actually creating. I'm glad to say that I'm starting to use my reusable water bottle much more often than before as a first step to making less of an impact.
