can you create a meal based only on local, fresh ingredients?

Challenge 2- Shop at a local farmers market this saturday and find ingredients needed to create a complete, fresh, organic, free-range meal for your friends or family. Comment on the foods you chose, what you made, and the feedback you received for your efforts.
Coppell Farmers Market

  1. I went to the farmers market in old Coppell Saturday morning. There I bought asparagus, garlic scapes, lemons and artichokes. For dinner I baked salmon in kosher sea salt, with some other spices, lemon juice, and garlic scapes. I grilled the asparagus. Then I served it to my mom brother and myself. It was really good. I am a good cook, so my mom enjoyed the meal. She also got a night off and enjoyed that.

  2. On Saturday I went to the farmers market in Coppell. I was going to make some pasta with red sauce with some fruit and bread. I got there and was a little surprised on how much it cost, but because of it being so fresh and local, it has to be a little more expensive. When I got home and told my parents I was making dinner they were very surprised. They didn't have much faith in me! I ended up making angel hair pasta with red sauce, bread, with watermelon and peaches. It was so good! My parents really enjoyed it and were very thankful that I made dinner.

  3. for my Blog post assignment, i decided to make a meal for my family using just local foods from the farmers market.
Though not entirely vegan, I feel that the meal was a good overall experience for my family.
Since my family is very conservative when it comes to food, i decided to make something that was very standard for an American family. I had to get there a little early to get all the components of the meal.
I bought a dozen free-range, some bacon, a loaf or artisan-looking bread, some surprisingly tasty cheese, and my favorite part, cookies from wackym's kitchen.
With all these components, I made my family grilled cheese sandwiches with eggs and bacon on the side, and wackym's cookies for dessert. (we drank water)

  4. For Memorial Day, I made my mother's strawberry salad. I bought all the ingredients on saturday and bought the lettuce leaves and strawberries. I also used hazelnuts from a nut farm in Oregon that my family received as a christmas gift and I went to Sprouts to get a vegan salad dressing (which I was suprised to find one). Now when I ask my mother for the recipe, she started laughing when I told her that I had to cook since I do very little of that. My sister during Memorial Day asked what I was doing in the kitchen, she chuckled when I said I was cooking. Although I did get praise from my family at how good my recreation of the salad was, I am sure that my mother's is a lot better. Overall, it was fun trying to cook!
