volcano vaca!

For this blog post, create your ideal travel itinerary to a famous volcano. This should be a three-day trip beginning with a flight out of DFW airport. You may choose ANY volcano you would like to visit. This volcano may be a shield, a cinder cone, a composite volcano, or other. Describe what you would do on your trip, including details about the volcano you are visiting and a link to one picture. Cite sources and be sure to include your name in your post. This blog post is due before 4pm on Friday.

  1. February 8th, my best friend and I went to Hawaii for a vacation to go see the greatest shield volcano ever, The Mauna Kea. We woke up at 10am and went to the airport to deport from DFW. We landed in Hawaii around 4pm and made our way to our hotel. By the time we were settled in, it was already 6pm and time for dinner. We found a great place to eat at Sushi Rock. At 10pm, we finished eating and we started heading back to our hotel. We had to get a good night’s sleep for our trip to The Mauna Kea Volcano the next day!

February 9th, we woke up around 8pm and started packing for our hike to Mauna Kea. The hike was going to take about 4 hours so we had to get going early in the morning. During our hike, we saw a lot of cool creatures such as, colorful lizards, squawking birds, snakes, frogs, and flying squirrels. Around 1pm, we final reached our destination at Mauna Kea. We were blown away by what we saw. It was way bigger than we expected and we discovered that the rock was basaltic. We took tons of pictures with it, and spent hours around it. Soon after that, we had to start making our way back to the hotel. We got to our hotel around 7pm and looked at all the cool pictures we took.

February 10th, we had to wake up at 9am to go visit some more interesting places in Hawaii before we had to go catch our plane at 1pm. We visited little souvenir shops and ate some lunch. We got to the airport at 12pm and started boarding around 1pm. We got back home to DFW at 4pm and got back to our homes before school the next morning.

Overall, it was the DREAM vacation. I LOVED visiting the Mauna Kea.

  3. My ideal vacation would to go to the island of Maui to go see the volcano Haleakala. I would leave DFW airport pretty late because the flight is around 8 hours long and hawaii is five hours behind us. So when i would arrive at Maui i would defiantly want to go try to go as close as i could to the volcano to be able to observe it. Haleakala is a Shield volcano its so big that it forms more than 75% of the Hawaiian Island of Maui. After visiting the volcano i would go to the Haleakala National Park to learn more about the Volcano and explore more of the Island. On my second day at the island I would try to book a helicopter ride so that i could go over the Volcano and see how big it actually is and be able to see the island. After the helicopter ride i would go venture out to the island and see all the beautiful nature. When it gets close to dinner time i would go to a Luau to be able to experience the Hawaiian culture. The last day in Hawaii i would go to the beach all day to tan and go to the shops to get souvenirs. Then i would get a flight back to Texas as late as i possibly could so i could stay in the most beautiful place in the world.

  5. April 17th, my brother and I went to Hawaii for a vacation to go see the shield volcano, Mauna Kea. We woke up at 8:30am and went to the airport to leave from DFW. We landed in Hawaii around 2:30pm and checked into our hotel at 3pm. We left our stuff there and went to have some lunch. We found a real good place to eat called La Bistro. At 5pm, we finished eating and we headed back to the hotel to unpack and settle in. We finished at 8:30, so we decided to head out and eat again at a different place called Chef Mavro. We finished at 10pm and decided to head back and crash out, since we had to wake up early the next day.

The next day we woke up around 8:30am and started packing for our hike to Mauna Kea. Before we started our hike we decided to catch some breakfast so we ordered room service and left at about 10:30am. The hike was going to be about 4-5 hours so we wanted to make sure we weren’t going to get hungry. We made it to Mauna Kea at 4:30pm. We thought it was pretty big and it looked real cool so we took some pictures of it and the basaltic rock on it, we also took pictures of some snakes and lizards. We ended up leaving back to the hotel at 6pm and made it back to got get something to eat from a very small restaurant that was open late. We made it to the hotel at 12:30am and crashed out.

April 18th, we had to wake up at 11am and started rushing to get all our stuff ready before 12:30am, so we could have time to get something to eat before we boarded the plane at 3pm. We got some great sea food at a small restaurant and made it to our plane on time. We got back at 7pm and made it to our house at 8.
It was a very good trip even though I would have like to have stayed longer.

  6. On June 7th I would head out to the DFW airport to depart to Italy with my good friend, Christoph Waltz. We planned to see the great Mount Vesuvius, and being an Austrian, Christoph has friend who live near by, making our stay in Italy cheaper. Christoph and I plan to meet board the plane around 7am and arrive around 2pm. Christoph’s friends, Kelly and Leo, will pick us up and they said they will treat us to some authentic, home cooked Italian food. Also, Kelly and Leo live in a providence called San Giorgio A Cremano, which is right near the Tyrrhenian sea so we also plan to sail later that afternoon. We would go to bed early that night in order to rest up for our hiking plans up Mount Vesuvius.

On June 8th, Christoph and I will get up early to travel to Mount Vesuvius. It is only about a 30minute drive, but sooner the better, right? We will go early with our hiking packs and jugs of water. From what I’ve heard, the hike up the mountain is not a walk in the park. Many people have said the trail is extremely long and difficult. Mount Vesuvius is a Stratovolcano that is still active today. It was created when the African plate and the Eurasian plate collided long ago. It is one of world’s biggest volcanoes and during its last eruption, it killed off all life in Pompeii. I know that the hike will be long, so I plan to bring lots of food and water. I’m sure it will get extremely hot as we get closer to the opening. We will probably also bring back rocks that are known as tephrite.
After seeing the volcano and having lunch, Christoph and I plan to come back down and have dinner at a local restaurant. We would be tired and would probably enjoy the rest of the day at the beach with Mount Vesuvius behind us.

On June 9th, Christoph and I will head back to the airport with Leo and Kelly. We would thank them and our last meal in the morning. After saying farewells, Christoph and I would also part ways because of our various schedules. He is supposed to be in Los Angeles to work on his next movie and I will be off to Virginia to meet up some old friends of mine. Our plane would leave around 11am and I would be in Virgina around 10pm. My friend Tony will be at the airport to pick me up and my stay will last about 2 weeks. As for Christoph, he will be in Hollywood with his agent Steven.

  8. During the week of spring break, my family and I will be visiting the amazing volcano of Mauna Loa. I'm choosing this volcano because it is located in Hawaii and it is the biggest volcano on Earth. We would leave Monday March 11th and come back Wednesday March 13th. On Monday morning, me and my family will wake up around 7am to catch a 9am flight out of DFW. We will arrive in Hawaii 8 hours later in Hawaii at 1pm Hawaii time. We will get a car and go to our hotel. After we settle in, we go out and eat lunch and go sight seeing in Hawaii. When it's dinner time we will find a place to eat, and afterwards go back to the hotel and sleep.

On day 2 we will wake up at 9am to eat breakfast and get ready for our hike to Mauna Loa. We will meet up with a guide who will tell us all about the volcano. He will tell us how it is a shield volcano, and it is made up of basaltic rock. He will then proceed to tell us that it is the biggest volcano in the world, so we will get an understanding of the hike we are about to go on. We will be hiking for about a total of 4 hours round trip. When we arrive at the volcano, we will take lots of pictures, and take some samples form the volcano. After we were done with everything at the volcano, we will hike back and watch the sunset at around 6pm. When we get back we will eat dinner at a place that has a great view of the volcano, and after we will head back to the hotel after a long day.

On the third and final day we will sleep in after a tiring couple of days. We will wake up by 11am and pack. We will take last second photos of the volcano and Hawaii and then head to the airport for our 2pm flight back to DFW. The flight will be 8 hours, but because of the time difference we will not get back until 4am Dallas time. When we get back, we will go home, unpack, and go to sleep.

  9. Day 1
Wake up at 5 AM and go to DFW to board an 8 AM flight to Rome. The flight would take 15 hours so we would arrive around 8 PM Dallas time but 3 AM in Italy. We would take a taxi to go to a hostel and sleep.

    Day 2
We would wake up and get on a train (because public transportation saves energy of course) and go to Pompeii. We would then travel to the excavation site and observe the devastation the stratovolcano, Mt. Vesuvius, wrought upon the unsuspecting people of Pompeii. The volcano's most famous eruption was in 79 AD and it destroyed the nearby town of Pompeii and it killed an estimated 16,000 people. The energy released by the volcano was one hundred thousand times the nuclear bomb unleashed over Hiroshima in WWII.
We would explore the ruins of Pompeii and the excavation site, learning about the history of the town itself.
After we would check into a hotel nearby and sleep for the night.
    Day 3
We would wake up and then take a helicopter tour of the actual Mt. Vesuvius. We would be able to see the scale of the volcano from the air and be able to track how the pyroclastic flow from the crater ran down the mountain and into Pompeii.
After our helicopter tour we would visit a souvenir shop and buy things to remember our trip. Hopefully we would be able to find some hardened lava from the actual eruption.
After we would take the train back to Rome and then board a flight home for DFW.

  11. First Day: The flight time from Texas to Italy is about 12 hours, and a time difference of about 5 hours, i would want my flight to leave at 9:00 in the morning from the DFW Airport so I would land around 5 in the afternoon in Sicily at Catania Airport. Drive time from the Catania Airport to the volcano is about 40 minutes so I would preferably find a cheap hotel near the airport. The day I arrive I don't plan on doing anything but finding a hotel, getting dinner and maybe walking around admiring Italy.

Second Day: The volcano I’m visiting is stratovolcano called Mount Etna. It is an active volcano, last eruption in 2002, and is the highest mountain of the 3 active mountains in Italy with an elevation of 10,991 feet. There are two routes you can take up the volcano so i chose Northern Approach. From there I will visit the Alcantara Gorges which is a beautiful waterfall created by an old lava eruption. Then I would continue to drive through Francavilla to stop at a cute little village and walk the old Greek fortress to a view over the Alcantara valley. After that I would drive up 1.900 mt./ 7.000 ft. level to a sky area which was destroyed in 2002 when the volcano erupted. I would get down the mountain and visit the "Sartorius" craters with a 45 minute walk through the Etna National Park with all sorts of animals and plants. With that, I would end my trip and start heading back to my hotel to grab a quick dinner and head straight to bed to bed so tomorrow I could go sight seeing.

Third Day: I would get up early, eat breakfast and head over to Erice, a hilltop town with castles and Punic walls, a church and medieval streets. Before catching my flight at 6:00 that afternoon, i would stop by and eat lunch at a cute Italian restaurant and enjoy my last moments soaking in the sun in the streets of Italy. I would arrive back in Texas at around 1 in the morning, so from there i would hurry home to get a good nights sleep from an amazing vacation!

  12. Brad Melville's Volcano Adventure!

Day 1: Fly from Dallas, TX, to Rome, Italy, with a 12 hours flight. I would depart from DFW Airport and land in Fiucino Airport 12 hours later, leaving at 7 pm to arrive in Italy at 2 pm the following day, with there being a 7 hour time difference.

Day 2: Having arrived at 2 pm in the Fiucino Airport, I would get a tour of Rome, visiting the Colosseum, Panteon, and ending it off with the Trevi Fountain, followed by dinner. Then, I'd go check in at my hotel in Rome for the night.

Day 3: I would wake up early, at 6 am, and take a bus from Rome to Campania, Italy, the city nearest to Mt. Vesuvius, to visit Pompeii. Once I reached Compania, around 9 am, I'd take a train to go visit Pompeii itself. Afterwards, I'd return to Compania,to go visit the volcano itself. At Vesuvius, I'd take a taxi up to the entrance of the hiking path, and then I'd hike up to the top of the Volcano. The Volcano is about 1218 meters tall, and hasn't erupted since 1944. It is a stratovolcano, and is set to erupt again within the next few decades. After many pictures have been taken, I will hike back down the mountain, and take a taxi back down to Compania, and check in at my new hotel.

Day 4: I'd wake up moderately early and take the return bus trip to Rome, arriving there around noon, to return to Fuicino Airport to leave at 3 for Dallas, TX. Leaving at 3 pm from Rome means getting back to Dallas at 8 pm very, very tired.

  13. Day 1: From DFW, I would get a flight to Salt Lake City Utah. This is the closest major city to Yellowstone National park. This would then include a 6 hour drive in order to reach the park, which is on the western part of the state of Wyoming. The park is also in Idaho and parts of Montana. The park does not have a specific volcano on it, rather it has the largest super volcano or caldera in the world beneath its earthy ground.

Day 2: After spending the night in the famous Old Faithful Inn, I would check out the cool geysers within the park. The caldera is a sort of hot spot within the continents. It produces these geyser because of the built up pressure beneath it surface. The geyser are due to the immense pressure and heat from the caldera. The most notable geyser inside the park is without a doubt old faithful. This geyser erupts roughly every 90 minutes an spews anywhere from 3700 to 8400 gallons of water every time it spews. The duration of the spews last anywhere from 10-30 seconds.

Day 3: The last day of my trip would be exploring the non geothermal features of the park. That would include exploring the many canyons and waterfalls within the park. All of Yellowstone is essentially made up of lava rock spewed from the caldera millions of years ago. If the caldera were to erupt today the ash would reach 6 ft in Texas, essentially wiping out life in the continental United States. I would also visit Yellowstone lake which is the largest freshwater lake above 7000 ft in the world. This would be the last stop on my vacation, I would then return to Salt Lake City and catch my return flight to DFW.

  14. Matt Augustine’s family trip to Mount Saint Helens

Day 1: We would take off from DFW at 9 in the morning and approximately land around 10 in the morning in Portland Oregon. From there we rent a car and drive an hour to Longview, Washington. Once we check in at the Best Western we will begin getting our hiking packs ready for the following day. We can get lunch at the hotel, and find a cool little restaurant for dinner. After dinner we need to go right to bed, probably around 9 PM, so we can be well rested for our hike.

Day 2: We need to wake up around 6 AM so we can get started on the hike. We will eat breakfast at the hotel. We will leave the hotel around 7 AM and take the rental care straight up Interstate 5 all the way to the stratovolcano Mount Saint Helens. We will be arriving at the mountain around 8 AM. Once there, we need to make sure we have plenty of food for the hike because it is an all day hike. We will need lots of water for hydration, and will also need sunglasses, sunscreen, and a hat due to little tree cover. After making sure we have everything we will begin the hike. The hike we will be taking is the Harry’s Ridge hike. It is an 8-mile hike that ends with all of us looking into the mouth of the crater. On the way we will see wildflowers and beautiful scenery. Once at the top we will also get a direct view of Loowit Falls, an emerging glacier, Spirit Lake, Mount Hood, and Mount Adams. After reaching the top we will start to head back down so we can be down by dark. Once down, we will take the car back to the hotel in Longview. We will obviously be extremely tired, so we will likely fall asleep quickly back at the hotel.

Day 3: We will wake up again around 6 and eat breakfast. We should be leaving the hotel around 7 and arrive at the Helicopter tour around 8. We already have a reserved flight for 9. At 9 we will all pile into the helicopter and take off for our 45 minute tour of the Volcano. We will land around 10, and then head over to the gift shop so we can grab some souvenirs before we head home. We will eat lunch at a surrounding area restaurant and then drive back to the hotel. At the hotel we will pick up all of our bags and drive to the Airport for our flight at 4 PM. We will fly back to DFW and land around 9 PM Dallas time. Once at home we can finally relax from the awesome trip!

Arrive back in Kelso at 7:00PM to catch another dinner at Freddy's Just for the Halibut.
Return to the hotel at 8:00PM to rest.

    Day 3.
Wake up at 10:00 AM to catch breakfast in the lobby.
Drive back to Portland International Airport to catch your 3:00 PM flight back to Dallas.
Arrive at DFW International Airport at 7:00 PM.

  16. DAY 1: My best friend Sams birthday is on the same day that Mt. Saint Helen's erupted on. So i decided to surprise him with a gift of 2 plane tickets to Skamania County, Washington to go visit the active Stratovolcano! He was so surprise and had the biggest smile on his face when he opened it! I told him to start packing because we leave at 5pm from the DFW airport and it was already 1:30 since i took him to Canes for a lunch date. ;) After a long 4 hour flight we finally arrived at our Destination and was able to check into our hotel. Since it was his birthday I decided to upgrade to the Presidential Suite and make him even more happy.;) We decided to hit the hay and get a good nights rest for his big birthday tomorrow!!
DAY 2: I woke up at 8am and order room service for breakfast while the birthday boy was still asleep. Once same woke up to the fresh smell pancakes, bacon, and eggs it was almost 9. Once we finished our breakfast and got all dressed and showered it was about 11. Once we got to the AMAZING stratovolcano we were just shock and awe.:O As it is Sams 18th birthday, Helen is turning 33 since its last eruption. We put our hiking boots on and started the long hike up the volcano. We got to the top and we both said "Wow Helen is so HOT." Sam thought that was it, but he didnt know that i packed food and a blanket to have a picnic at the top.;) He was so shocked! Before we started our hike down we took a rock to keep for memory sake. ROCK on \m/. We then went back to the hotel because we were exhausted from our hike.
DAY 3: Since our plane home was at 12pm we had to leave our hotel early to get to the airport. We were sad to leave but it was the best birthday he has ever had he told me. So that made me happy to here that. It was so much fun and Sam and i are thinking about going back for next year!:)

  19. Aubreay’s Mauna Kea Volcano Adventure

    Day 1
Fly out of DFW and head to the Big Island of Hawaii. After the 13 hour flight I would find my hotel and check in at around 7 p.m. Hawaii time. After I grabbed some dinner I’d make sure all my equipment for my volcano adventure was prepared and my bag was ready. The seasonal snow cover on the steep slopes of Mauna Kea is easier to see from coastal areas but since I plan to get closer I’m packing extra clothing and warm foods in my travel bag.

    Day 2
I leave my hotel at around 8 in the morning with my travel bag, lots of water and my camera to take pictures of the Mauna Kea shield volcano. Before my trip I studied the volcano and knew that it had little to zero eruption rates and is twice as steep as the Mauna Loa volcano which is also located in hawaii. After a mile long hike I stopped to take some pictures of the view and enjoyed some hot chocolate. Once I got my pictures and finished my hot chocolate I headed back down my trail and went to the hotel.

    Day 3
I spend my morning eating breakfast in the hotel and looking at the pictures I took of the Mauna Kea Volcano. I head to the airport, check in and come back to DFW to share my experience.

  20. Sam Frederick's Icelandic Adventure:

Day 1: Catch a long, yet exciting from DFW at 8:30 pm to London and from there to Reykjavík, Iceland landing at 4PM the next day. After a long day of air travel, I will find a hospitable local and stay at their humble abode. That evening I will speak with the native and learn some of the fantastic customs and culture Iceland has to offer.

Day 2: Gotta wake up bright and early to see as much of Eyjafjallajökull as we can! My new friend and I will drive 2 hours from Reykjavík to Pörsmörk, Iceland and from there we will have to hike to the volcano. Due to the preservation of the landscape, there are no roads directly to the volcano, how beautiful! From there, our self lead tour around the 800,000 year old volcano begins :) There is an ice field at the base of Eyjafjallajökull about 75 square km big so don't forget your snow boots! Eyjafjallajökull is a stratovolcano so due to violent eruptions in the past there is a large crater at the top. The crater rises to 1666 km and sets up a beautiful view of the Atlantic Ocean. It is profound once you realize you're located at the start of the Mid-Atlantic ridge, and standing on the only part of it that is above sea level! The surrounding areas are carved by ancient glaciers to make for an even more spectacular view. Be careful though, Eyjafjallajökull errupted violently in the spring of 2010 and virtually brought all air travel in Europe to a halt. My companion and I will spend all day and night on the volcano and will camp out at the base to develop a close relationship with the land.

Day 3: Another early morning awaking around 6 AM in order to reach the airport in time. I will part ways with my new friend, but I know we will keep in touch and that our friendship will last a life time, maybe he could come visit a volcano in my country such as Mt. Saint Helens! My flight leaves at 9 AM and due to a busy trip I am exhausted so I will sleep the entire 14 hours back to DFW.

  21. Day 1: I would arrive at the DFW airport with my family at around 11:00 am and our flight would take off at 1:00pm. Our plane would arrive at the Portland Airport around 5:00pm. We would then drive to our hotel, Guesthouse Inns Suites (501 Three Rivers Dr.Kelso, WA 98626), and get checked in. Then we will go eat dinner around 8:00pm and then come back to our hotel and go to sleep between 10:00pm-11:00pm so we will be well-rested to go see Mount St Helens the next day.
Day 2: We would wake up at 8:00am and get ready and go eat breakfast in the hotel at 9:00am. We would leave the hotel at about 9:30am and arrive at Mount St Helens National Volcanic Monument around 10:30am or 11:00am. The Monument was created to preserve the area around Mount St Helens after it erupted violently in 1980.To start off our day we would take a scheduled helicopter tour at 11:30am, where we would be able to see the crater of Mt St Helen, a stratovolcano and the youngest and most active volcano in the Cascade Range, and see other areas surrounding the volcano, like Spirit Lake, the Toutle River Valley, and Coldwater and Johnston Ridge. We will be able to see where the volcano exploded and see how the environment has recovered from it since then. After the tour is over, we will go eat at a restaurant near the volcano, like the Eco Park Backwoods Café at about 1:00pm. If we have time, at 2:00pm or so we will then go on a hike and explore areas around the volcano, like Spirit Lake, Ape Caves, and the Loowit Trail. Finally we will go back to our hotel and get a small meal for dinner and get back to our hotel at about 7:00pm. We will relax at our hotel and then go to bed around 10:00pm since we will be tired from the tour and hike.
Day 3: We will get up at about 8:00am again and pack up to leave the hotel. We will then eat breakfast before we check out and leave the hotel at about 10:00 am. We will go back to the volcano to go look at the Johnston Ridge Observatory, where we will learn about the story of Mount St Helens, including a movie about how the eruption affected the volcano’s landscape and be able to get one last view of the volcano. Then we will eat at Patty’s Place on Milepost 19 and leave at 2:00pm. We will then arrive at the airport at 4:00pm and our plane will take off at about 6:00pm. Our plane will then arrive at DFW airport at 10:00pm and we will be exhausted so we will go home.

  22. Nick Hazelrigg's Hawaiian Volcano Expedition (Mauna Kea):

Day 1: I would wake up for my 8 A.M. flight from DFW International Airport to Hawaii where I would get off about 8 hours later. I would spend the rest of the day taking a cab out away from the resort area where I would rough it in the small Hawaiian wilderness on my own for a couple of days in order to keep my expenditures low. I would save the majority of my money to do other more exciting things on the island.

Day 2: I would wake up before the sun, as I likely wouldn't have my own alarm clock, and begin my adventures for the day. First, I would research the main attraction, Mauna Kea, and find that it is a large Hawaiian shield volcano. It is the largest and youngest of Hawaii's major volcanoes as it stands 13,803 feet above sea level and is past its shield stage. Its lava is becoming more viscous and it is entering into a part of its life that gives it characteristics more like a cinder cone volcano. It hasn't erupted in 4,600 years, but it is still active and is expected to erupt again. Fortunately such an eruption wouldn't be any time soon, so I shouldn't have to worry about having to evacuate during my vacation. It was formed by a hot spot, and has basaltic magma that usually flows out in a harmless eruption. After researching the volcano, I would take a guided hike around the volcano and hopefully get to see inside of it and take some cool pictures by it. After my hike it would probably be later in the day due to my studious habits and my massive amounts of research. I would therefore return to my shelter on the deserted beach before nightfall to avoid being stranded on the island. I would use cabs for transportation and get a good night's rest in my hammock that I would fashion out of palm leaves.

Day 3: Once again I would wake up before the sun and prepare myself a hearty breakfast of coconuts and fish that I skewered myself out of the ocean. I would cook my breakfast on an open fire and freshen up in the ocean before beginning my day. I would then take a cab back to the volcano, where I would find a skydiving center. I would then skydive over the volcano so that I would get to see an awesome aerial view of the volcano as well. I would then collect some lava rocks from around the volcano as souvenirs to take back home. After this it would probably be around noon, and I would likely go sightseeing and pay to swim with dolphins. I would do this for the remainder of the day (and probably pick up some fast food) and eventually return to my shelter to pack up. I would then get a good night sleep in my hammock and prepare to head back home the next day.

Day 4: I would wake up before the sun as is my habit and return to the airport via cab. I'd take some last minute pictures to commemorate my stay in Hawaii and then gladly head home. My flight would depart Hawaii at around noon and I'd arrive back in DFW happy as can be. It would be a memorable trip and I'd probably be lacking in health and sanitation, but it would all be worth it.

  23. Landon Moody Hawaiian Volcano Trip
Day 1: This day would start by waking up early to catch my flight at 6:30am to the island of Kauai, Hawaii. The flight is about 9 hours so I made sure to book and early time so i can get there and go straight out to adventure. The only downfall is the 5 hour difference so I will need to make sure and get all the rest I need on the flight to have enough energy for the day. Once I arrive in Kauai, Im going to check in at the hotel, which is on the beach, and then book my helicopter tour for the next day because I will be going into the shield volcano named Kilauea. This is the youngest volcano on this island.

Day 2: I will need to wake up early and eat a good breakfast because I will be out most of the day and theres a possibility I might miss lunch. After my good breakfast I will need to check into my helicopter tour and get ready for the journey into and around the volcano. The tour actually goes into the volcano and from what I hear you can see the small points of the volcano erupting if you are lucky. After my helicopter tour I will head back to the hotel and hit the beach. After I will head into the hotel, get some good dinner, and get rest for the next day.

Day 3: Today I will take a hike around the Island of Kauai and see the a beach which you can only get to if you hike 12 miles into through the forest of Kauai. I have to make sure to get myself ready for a 12 mile hike. After this I will go scuba diving of the shore of Hanelei, I heard the have some really clear water and alot of water life to see. I will then head to the hotel, get packed, and catch my red eye flight which takes off at 9:00pm, which means I wont be arriving back at DFW until the early morning.

  24. It was like the time of a school day to wake up upon, only a few hours later. At 11:12, me and my adjunct, Mark Butts, said our goodbyes to our parents and met at CHS to wait for a taxi. The taxi takes us and our belongings to the DFW Airport. There we wait until 12:11 when we got into the plane and did various masculine, yet dolt stuff. Arriving at the airport, where the time there is 5:43, we called upon a taxi to bring our luggage and our very heavyweight bodies to be taken to a hotel called Hótel Edda Íkí. We saw some of the features of Iceland and a glimpse of the shield volcano will be seeing there. As we checked into the hotel, a translator came along to accompany us tourists in case. We were so pooped from the many incident we did on the plane that we just acted like couch potatoes and stared at the many Icelandic TV shows. For dinner, we went to some a restaurant called the Rettin, where we couldn't stop making jokes of our environment, and ate some stuff that apparently mixed cultural foods all into one. After that, we got ready to sleep and continued to laugh in our beds.
The next day, the time came to travel to the shield volcano of...the very confusing name. After I woke up Mark at 10:10 like a mom would, we ate a breakfast of simple american Butter Toast and Eggs. We then got dressed and continued to watch some more Icelandic TV shows until our translator, and guide, came. We went with him to various transportation, where we finally took a tour bus that took about an hour. We talked to some Icelandic people, the Icelandic people laughed at us, and played "I Spy" on some SHEEPS. It was then that the moment finally came. The Skjaldbreiour was just there beyond, like a heavenly architect built by the gods. Did I mention that its name actually means shield in Icelandic? As obvious that it was basaltic, I was intimidated by imagining many sacrifices tribes gave back then to calm its anger. The info said that it erupted 9000 years ago, and, because it let its anger out, made the various basins and lakes and valleys. If you think about it, it seemed like a fairy tale. Well not for Mark, as he just looked at the Icelandic descriptions and asking the guide if "destruction" was a key word there. We visited around the mountain, bought some things at a gift shop, got an official "Skjaldbreiour blah blah blah" T-Shirt, and gave the volcano our farewells. After getting off the tour bus for about an our again, we decided to hit our last night here at a place called the Lindin for dinner. There were so many veggies to seek out, and kids tried to speak broken English to us, which made me flattered. As usual, we made some heavy jokes at the restaurant, until a random old guy turned to us. He knew English, and for some reason, he sat down at our table and told us SO many tales about Iceland annd the volcano we visited. This took more than 30 minutes, cause we were so into it. The old man told us his goodbyes, and we went back to the hotel to drink some soy milk and...i don't know, whatever we did back then.
This was the day to travel back to the land of fast food restaurants we once loved. At 11:00, surprisingly, Mark got up earlier than I did, eating Millberry Doughboy's Toaster strudles. At 12: we went to the process of going to the airport by taxi with this very nice translator. Dropping off, we said our goodbyes, went to more gift shops, and met our departing airplane. While on, I don't wanna know, we made a huge ruckus starting from how the Skjaldbreiour didn't kill as much as it did people brawling with each other and babies crying, even while we slept. Yep, this was some adventure me and Mark had. I'm glad to have shared with you all, unless of course it's actually real.

  25. I would take a trip to the volcano Paricutin in Michoacán, Mexico, with a couple of friends. We would take a 9AM flight to Mexico on the first morning. I would have my bags packed a day early and be at the DFW airport by 7:30. After I had boarded the plane and taken off, it would take about 2 hours to land. Once landed my friends and I would rent a jeep and find a hotel to stay in near the Volcano. We would spend the first day sight seeing the area and checking out all the tourist attractions. We would check out the mines of Angangueo and the former mining town of Tlalpujahua, and the archeological wonders of Tingambato. This area of Mexico is full of craft and industry, so we would visit all the little towns, all the while asking natives of any information about Paricutin. Once we had seen our share of the culture, and learned as much as we could about the volcano, we would get a good nights rest for our hike to the volcano in the morning. The next morning bright and early we would set out for our hike with enough food, water, and provisions for a two-day hike. We would spend the first day visiting the lava-covered city of Michoacán near Paricutin. When we had trekked the entire city we would make camp and sleep in the forest near the city. The next morning at dawn, we would begin our hike up the volcano. We spend the entire day hiking up the volcano and looking at the beautiful scenery around us. When we had all had our fill of sight seeing the volcano, we would head back to our hotel and pack for a red eye flight back home. Along the way we would have learned that this particular volcano is a cinder cone. Also that it is part of the Michoacán-Guanajuato volcanic field, along with being a part of the Ring of Fire. We would also have learned that this volcano erupted from 1943-1952. Most of the explosion was from the first year, which grew the volcano to 1,100 feet. It erupted for 8 more years but only added 290 feet. The lava traveled 10 square miles, but neither lava nor ash killed anybody. There were three deaths related to lighting caused by the volcano. Paricutin is the most recent volcano to form on the Western Hemisphere, and is often considered one of the Seven Wonders of the World.

  26. My vacation would be to go to Mount Kilauea in the islands of Hawaii. I would leave DFW airport early because I am a morning person and ever since I can remember my plane flights were also early in the morning. So when I would arrive at Mount Kilauea I would definitely visit the volcano to get a layout of the trip before I Actually hike up the ,mountain and recorded my observations. Kilauea is the second biggest Volcano on the Hawaiian islands. After visiting the volcano I would spend my time planning the hiking and traveling I would do for my first real day at Mount Kilauea. During the second day I would spend my time hiking up the mountain to see how the weather and conditions are to keep the group hiking. I would also spend the time looking at the vegetation that grew on the volcano even though it had erupted at a previous time. As the sun went down and it was too late to continue trekking through the mountains I would go back to where I was staying and spend the time making dinner reservations and double checking that the return flight home was at an early time so that when I got back I could spend time with all my friends. Then I would return home the next day.

Arrive at the Honolulu International Airport at 5pm from DFW International Airport after leaving at 11am because it’s a 8 hour flight but because of the time zone change you would gain 2 hours. Next I made it down to the ocean where I was going to take a sea plane to a base camp right on the ocean at the foot of the Haleakalā which is a massive shield volcano that forms more than 3 quarters of Island of Maui. I would be there with many other adventurous tourists pumped for this experience. What would be part of the fun is catching your dinner, collecting firewood, and making your own shelter for the night.

In the morning we wake up at sunrise and catch some fresh breakfast from the ocean and also cook some lunch and dinner since we will be staying near the top of the Haleakalā for the night. We hike up the volcano, take pictures, and just take in all there is all around us on the way up. The view is amazing every which way you turn. Throughout the day we eat what we had packed and before it gets dark we make camp and make our shelters for the night because it looks like it’s going to pour all night. Some of us followed the packing directions and packed a rain jacket and water tight bag for extra clothes. It starts raining as we go to bed but we all fined it soothing after a long day of hiking and being filthy.

The next morning we wake to a loud thunder clap that seemed like it hit right beside of us! We scramble to get all of our belongings together and make the trek down in what I imagine would be record time. It’s too dangerous to take the 15 of us back by sea plane so we have to wait out the storm in the trees till the seas calm down so a boat can come take us back to Honolulu so we can fly out by 5pm and we get back at 3am.

  29. Day 1: I would wake up early and head out to DFW airport to catch my flight to Hawaii. It takes about 8 hours to get there and texas is five hours ahead so i would hope to leave texas at around 6 in the morning that way i could arrive in Hawaii at around lunch time. Once i landed the first thing i would do is check into my hotel and get situated. I would then grab some food and go look for the volcano Kilauea. I would want to scope everything out and make sure my plans are still on for day 2 of my trip. After checking out the area, i will be exhausted from the plane ride and need to hurry back to my room to catch up on some sleep! I will be waking up early the next morning.

Day 2: Wake up at 7 am to eat breakfast in the lobby, then at 7:30 i would head out to the volcano where i will be attending my helicopter ride. which will be at 9 am. The ride will last 45 min to about an hour, and i will learn a lot of things. There will be a guide present who will tell me all the facts about Kilauea. Kilauea is a shield volcano and mainly erupts basaltic lava, and the name of the volcano means "spewing/much spreading" in the hawaiian language. Once finished with the helicopter ride I'd like to walk around the volcano and see the lava rocks and stuff. This would be my first time visiting a volcano so I'd be sure to have my camera to record all the cool things i discover. After i was done examining around the volcano i would go back to the hotel and look at all my pictures i took and look up anything i was unfamiliar with. Then i assume i'd fall asleep.

Day 3: I don't plan on waking up until about 10, because my flight is at 5. I will have a brunch and after i will take some pictures of the beautiful island. i would arrive home at around 5 am and then hurry home to go to sleep, from a great trip!

On the first day I would wake up nice and early to make sure that I get to my flight on time. Having packed the night before, I was all ready to go. My flight left around 10:00am, I got to the airport around 8:00am just to be safe and to give me plenty of time. The flight is about 14 hours long. After a nice and long flight we finally arrived in hawaii. I will stay with my friend who lives in hawaii. I after taking a nice long nap, I would go explore the island a little bit. After getting in bed for the day I will set my alarm for 7:00am, I want to get the most time possible exploring volcano Mauna Loa. Mauna Loa's most recent eruption occurred from March 24 to April 15, 1984. No recent eruptions of the volcano have caused fatalities, but eruptions in 1926 and 1950 destroyed villages, and the city of Hilo is partly built on lava flows from the late 19th century. This volcano has been erupting for the past 700,000 years. It is the biggest volcano on the planet.

On the second day I will get up nice and early to have breakfast. Then I will meet for this jeep ride that takes you around the volcano and gives you information about the volcano. Hopefully I will learn a lot of information about this volcano and i can write down in my notepad. They also say that there is a stopping point where we get to explore and get out and take pictures. After spending the majority of my day here I will probably spend the rest of my day hanging out with my friends who live in hawaii.
Day three I will get up early and start packing. My flight on the way back is at 2:00pm so ill have a little bit more time to hangout and enjoy myself. This is a very short trip but I feel like I will learn so much from it, and also get to see my friends that I only see once every few years.

Day 1: I would leave from DFW Airport around 8am and it would take around 8 hours to get to Honolulu. The first day there I would land on the big island and defiantly go to the Hawaii Volcanoes National Park. Where I would hike on some of the trails there. After that I would go back to my Hotel and just crash from the plane trip, hiking and just being there.

Day 2: I would start off the day taking a boat to Kauai, where I would go to Coconut Coast and try to learn how to surf, after a couple hours of that I would go to Opaekaa Falls and just chill out after hours of surfing. Then after that I would head back to my Hotel and sleep.

Day 3: My last day there I would visit the Hawaii Volcanoes National Park again but I would take a different trail and visit the other side of the volcano. Then after an eventful morning and mid afternoon I would have to head back to Honolulu and fly back to Dallas.

  33. Day 1: My journey would begin fairly early in the morning at the DFW International Airport. I would catch a flight to the Yellowstone Regional Airport in Cody, Wyoming, which is located about 20 miles to the east of Yellowstone National Park. I would then call my friend who lives in the area to come pick me up from the airport at about 2 P.M. We would then get some lunch and talk with locals about all the things to do and see on our vacation. At the end of the day we would drive through the park and see everything from the car.

Day 2: On the second day, we would explore all the geothermal features of the park, beginning with seeing Old Faithful erupt. We would then travel to the Norris Geyser Basin - the hottest geyser basin in all of Yellowstone. This area is very large and home to several super hot, frequently erupting geysers. The water is far too hot and acidic for any sort vegetation or animals to live nearby. Next we would visit the Mammoth Hot Springs. The Mammoth Hot Springs are very popular at Yellowstone. All the features we would visit this day show what is truly happening below our feet inside the supervolcano. We would then take a helicopter ride to get an aerial vantage point of the park. After being shown the huge caldera, I would then reach the epiphany that we have been walking around a massive supervolcano that if it erupted, there would be a cataclysmic eruption, exponentially more powerful than an nuclear bomb, wiping out most life in the US. I would then become even more disturbed as I learned that it erupts about every 600,000 years, and the last eruption was about 630,000 years ago. We'd then return to my friends house for the night.

Day 3: We would wake up and go visit the non-geothermal features of the park on the third day. Our first stop would be the Grand Canyon of the Yellowstone. This is a feature that has been carved away by glacial activity and partly shaped by the last eruption of the volcano. Next stop would be Tower Falls, the most popular water fall in the park. Water flows over 300 straight down from the top of the falls. I would then go back to the airport in the late afternoon and return back to DFW around 9 or 10PM. Most of my journey home would be spent reflecting upon the realization of the imminent danger of the supervolcano that is due to erupt soon.

Day1 1: I will fly out of the DFW airport at 6 am on friday morning to Hawaii to vist the Kilauea volcano. When i arrive in Hawaii i will check into my hotel and get some rest. I will probably enjoy some of the local attractions to spend the rest of the night. Also get some more information about the volcano and learn more about it before i actually visit it. i learned that there have been 34 eruptions since 1983 so i hope the volcano doesnt erupt when im there! But the good thing is that the volcano is 60 km into the earth so i think im good.
Day 2: I will get up early and prepare to go visit the volcano. I will then go to the main building that gives tours of the volcano. When i get to the volcanoe i will ask as many questions as i can about the volcano. Also i will sign up for a private tour to make sure i get the best view and information. I will probably be there enjoying the sites and taking photos for the majority of the day. When i am finished touring the volcanoe i will be tired and worn out from a long day. I will go get some dinner and head back to the hotel.
Day:3 On the last day i will wake up really early eat a good breakfast and then go back to the volcano location one last time before i leave. i will get some last minute photos to share with my friends so they can see how magnificent the volcano was. after my flight Back to leavs at 2 pm sunday afternoon. It will be a great trip i know it!

  35. Waking up early to get to the airport to hit our flight to Honolulu, and after a short layover in Sacramento, I would reach Honolulu around 2:30. I would then take another plan over to the airport in Maui. After getting to the hotel in Maui and getting checked into the hotel and getting settled in my hotel room, I would then go to Cheeseburger is Paradise. After looking around at the local shops, I would head back to the hotel to catch up on some sleep since my day will start early.

I would take the Sunrise Special at a local bike shop, which departs from their shop approximately 2 hours before sunrise, which is usually around 330. After a guided van tour of the park and I would go watch the sunrise at Haleakala's Summit, which is at 10,023 ft above sea level. Just outside the parks entrance, which is at 6500 feet, that is when I will start my self guided 23 mile bike ride down the mountain (with points of interest) back to their shops around 3:00. Then I would hope into my rental car and take the famous "Road to Hauna" and making sure that I would by the "wonderful" tap that goes along with it. After several stops at natural waterfalls and spending time at the black beach that is at the end of this Road, I would head back to my hotel to eat dinner, pack my bag, and go to bed after a long day.

On the third day, since my plane does not leave until around 7:00, I would spend my time on the beaches, go around the town one more time, and eat more food until I arrive at the airport. After checking in and dropping my rental car off, I would board my non-stop flight to Dallas and arrive at 6:30 in the morning.

  36. I want to visit Mt. Redoubt – Alaska, USA.

Flight out of DFW: 7:00am on American Airlines
Landing Time in Alaska: Around 12pm-1pm.

I will take a helicopter to the mountain and then land and before 2009 you were able to climb the mountain, but it errupted in 2009. So the tourists right now closely observe it, but I do not think we are allowed to climb it. The erruption has not stopped, so we can only observe the beautiful mountain from a close range.

    Dog sledding at 5 pm
Bear Watching at the Peninsula the next day. It is across from the city of Kenai.
The next day I would go to the Pribilof Islands to nature watch. I will see some moose and birds, and other cool creatures
    Back to hotel by 7pm
Fly back to Dallas at 7am
    Land: 1pm

Make a scrapbook of my adventures: 2pm

  37. Day 1: I would wake up at 10 am and go the airport. Then check in and wait until my departure at 12pm. Then I would take my, eight hour and fifty minute, flight over to England to let the plane refuel. Then take the two hour and forty-five minute flight the rest of the way to Naples, Italy. Once I have landed in Naples, I will check into my hotel considering it will be around 12’o clock in the morning not including time zone changes.
Day 2: I would wake up and take a shower. Then go downstairs to the hotel lobby and eat breakfast. Then I would pack up a backpack and go explore the ruins of Pompeii. I would wonder my way through the lost city and visit The Temple of Jupiter. I would then make my way over to The Temple of Apollo after. After this I would then walk around the house of the Faun. And take pictures of the faun in the middle of the court. Then lastly before the day ends I would explore the Amphitheater of Pompeii.
Day 3: On the last day of my trip I would spend it exploring and hiking Mount Vesuvius. I would start on the side of the Mountain that faces Pompeii. I would then take 20 minute hike up the mountain and look around and see what it is like to see Pompeii and Naples from the point of view of the mountain. Then I will take the 30 minute hike down the mountain and end my trip after see the beautiful Mt. Vesuvius.

  38. I would take a trip in the summer to Hawaii, to see the volcano Hualalai, a rather small, dormant shield volcano, which is fairly close to Keahole airport. I would leave around 10pm, take an all night flight to the Keahole airport, and get a hotel relatively close. The next day, I would go to the volcano, and, from a safe distance take pictures and tours. The next day, I would perhaps go to the volcano and travel around at the base and take tours. Then, on the third day, I would actually schedule a helicopter tour to go inside the volcano. It would take a lot of money, but for this once in a lifetime trip, it would be worth it. I would then fly home the next day, satisfied with my trip.

  39. I would be leaving DFW airport in the morning to go to Mauna Loa in Hawaii and land at the Molokai Airport. I would begin my trip on this day because I will have arrived in Hawaii before noon because there is a four hour difference in time change and there's no point in wasting time lingering around. On this first day, I will go to the 24 hour visitors station to recieve information all about the volcano. I've done some previous research already and know that the volcano is an active volcano that it's name means "Long Mountain", it is also the largest active volcano in the world! I also had researched how this volcano is a basaltic shield volcano. I plan on going on the hike that they have to the summit of the volcano, and with this hike I can have free shelter/housing to spend the night in at the height of 13,680 feet. We will have a tour guide and will be able to learn more about the volcano throughout the hike. On day two of this hike whenever I wake up I will eat brekafast with the other hikers and begin our descent back to level grounds. The hike will take a decent amount of time because we have to adjust slowly throughout the hike due to alltitudes. We will take a break and make lunch out of the items we have packed in our bags. I plan on when returning back to level grounds to take a cab over to a near hotel, luckily i don't have to switch currency because we have the same currency, and i'll be able to pay for everything with ease. I plan to go star gazing with a group so that i can relax from the previous night and day of hiking. After the star gazing i'll return to the hotel to venture onto my third day of my trip. On this third day i plan on taking a slower day and look around at all of the gift shops they have and to tale a glimpse at the Thomas A. Jaggar Museum before i have to hop on my plane in the mid afternoon back to the DFW Airport.

  40. Departure time out of DFW: 7:45am
Time of arrival: 3:15pm in Honolulu

First thing I would do when I arrived in Honolulu is take a boat to the Big Island or Hawai'i island. Then go to my hotel, Wyndham Mauna Loa Village and rest. Then I would visit the local vinyards and shops and buy some stuff.
Then after lunch, I would go and see the biggest and most active volcano there is, Mauna Loa. It's last eruption was in 1984. Mauna Loa is a basaltic shield volcano and is in the Pacific tectonic plate . Hawaiian-type eruptions usually produce extremely slow-moving flows.

Day two: After observing the 13,678' high mountain for about 2 hours and would take my boat back to Honolulu and have some fun on the beach. Then zip line, scuba diving, snorkeling, and swim with the dolphins.

Day three: I would go and visit the other volcanoes surrounding Mauna Loa. Mahukona, Konhala, Mauna Kea, Loihi surround Mauan Loa on the big island and are very cool.

  41. I woud go to Hawaii this summer for my 3 day trip. I would Leave from DFW early one morning and fly to the island of Hawaii which is the main island of the island chains in Hawaii. It is a long flight so I would take my laptop and a book to read on the way down. Obviously I would fly first class on the way there and back. Once I got there I would go to my hotel and go out on the balcony and take in the site of the ocean! Then I would go down to the bar and grab a drink and head out to the beach to relax and catch some sun before it went down. Then I would go out to a nice restaurant and eat some grub for my big journey out to Lo'ihi! The mountain is 969m high and I would be scaling the mountain only with my hands. Its also 30K from shore so I will have to walk on top of the water to get there. But I cant let people see me walk on the water so I will use my invisibility cloak. I will take a sample of the magma and put it in my pocket so it doesn't burn through my pack back. After I gather samples of rocks and magma and lava I will jump back to the land and put the information in my computer. The next day I will jump to all the different Islands and create destruction. Then I will swim home! that is all.

  42. Things wouldn't get any better, I told myself while I read my invitation letter to Ecuador to visit Cotopaxi to gather information and data about that specific type of volcano. A volcano that I had no idea about, but I had an idea that since it was a very active volcano that I better bring clothing that would protect me from the heat while I’m in the crater. It should be a beautiful place surrounding the Volcano, since it erupted so many times it created numerous valleys around the place. As I got ready to head to DFW airport, I gathered all my useful gadgets so I can start my thrilling trip. As I got close to Quevedo, which is located near Cotopaxi, I could see the huge mountain rise up 19,347 feet in the air, so massive but yet so deadly. Thinking about how many big cities surround this monster of a volcano, Cotopaxi poses a high risk to Latacunga, La Mana, Pujili and San Miguel. It also has a high risk to the local population, their settlements and fields. The second day I went to analyze its crater, and I realized that the huge stratovolcano main danger would be of its huge flow of ice from its glacier. If there were to be a massive explosion, it would literally destroy most of the settlement, and the citizens from surrounding cities would have to evacuate. As I analyzed the volcano, Cotopaxi had an almost symmetrical cone that rises from a highland plain of about 12,500 feet, with an astonishing base of about 14 miles. I realized the flow of ice from its glacier comes from its equatorial glacier, which starts at a height of 16,400 feet. You can even see the mountain range all the way from the capital Quito. Another thing that I notice is that one of the reasons why Cotopaxi is so active is because it is part of the chain of volcanoes around the Pacific plate known as the Pacific Ring of Fire. As I gathered all the data that I needed on the third day, I gathered all of my belongings and I headed back to DFW, but I would never forget that experience of standing next to the most active volcano in the world.

  44. If I was going on an ideal vacation to visit a famous volcano, I would leave DFW really early in the morning. Fly for 8 hours on a flight to Hawaii. I would be going to hawaii to visit the Kilauea volcano. The first day I spend there would probably be just some local sight seeing around my hotel room and then hit the hay for the night. The next day, I would wake up moderately early, rent a car, and drive to the site of the Kilauea volcano. Which is also located at the Hawaii Volcanoes National Park. WhileI was there, I would probably go to visit the museum they had there, that has a few videos about the last time that the volcano actually erupted. Then I would look around the museum a little more. Next I would head outside and take a short bus ride to the actual site of the volcano where I will be overlooking a huge crater with a small volcano in the middle with bubbling lava and steam. After that, I would probably be done for the day and head back to the hotel room for the night. The last day of my vacation would probably be spent laying out on the beach just chilling out. The next day I would take a flight back to DFW.

This summer I actually get to go to Hawaii! I am planning on visiting the volcano Kilauea. Kilauea is considered one of the worlds most frequently active volcanoes. Kilauea has erupted 62 times in 245 years, which comes out to 1 eruption every 3.95 years.

Day 1: According to my plans, I have to get up early and head over to the DFW airport to catch a flight to San Francisco, where I will meet up with my aunt and uncle. The flight to San Francisco is roughly 3 and a half hours. We will meet up there, grab a quick lunch, and hop on a plane to Hawaii! The flight to Hawaii will be about 5 hours. I would probably leave DFW at 8, get into San Francisco at 11:30, leave San Francisco at 1, and land in Hawaii at 6. When we land, we are going straight for some awesome Hawaii dinner! We would get ourselves situated and rest up for a big day!

Day 2: We would wake up at around 7 to go eat breakfast at 7:30. We would take our time and really enjoy our food. This trip is about enjoying ourselves. We would head out to the volcano at about 9 for a helicopter ride. The ride should last about 45 minutes. There will be a tour guide on the helicopter who will explain what we are going to be looking at and what to really look for. On the helicopter I will be learning a lot of things including the fact that Kilauea is a shield volcano and mainly erupts basaltic lava, and the name of the volcano means "spewing/much spreading" in the Hawaiian language. Once the helicopter lands, we will go explore the volcano! We'll take lots of awesome pictures and enjoy looking at the beauty of Hawaii! We will not be taking any volcanic rocks home with us (Bad Luck!)We would pack a little picnic to take and eat while exploring. WE will probably leave the volcano at around 2. We would head back to the hotel and get freshened up for a night on the town!

Day 3: On day three we are actually going to be continuing on our trip! I plan on heading to the other islands, visiting Pearl Harbor, and laying on the beach! This is where the trip ends for you Mrs. Binder, but for me, it's just beginning!

June 14th- my parents and I wake up at 8:00 to get ready for a long day ahead of us. We get picked up from our house at 9:00 so we can be at the airport on time for our 11:00 flight to Maui. My parents have been to Maui before and even since they have been, they have wanted to take me. For breakfast we ate a chicken sandwich from McDonald’s at the airport. We boarded the plane at 10:40am and took off at 11:00am. We arrived to Maui at about 5pm. When we left the airport we went to our hotel to check in. We stayed at a hotel right on the beach. It was a glorious and beautiful site. We chilled at the beach all night and ate at the hotel for dinner and then went to bed.

June 15th- we woke up at 9am so we could see the amazing island of Maui. We took a tour of the island by a tour guide after we ate breakfast at the hotel. It was about 2:00pm when we were done with our tour. We got hungry and went to Maui tacos; it was very good. When we were done with that we packed up all our stuff from the hotel and went on a fairy to the main island of Hawaii. It took us 2 hours by boat to get there and when we got there we went to our hotel and signed in at about 8. We ate at a really nice steakhouse in Hawaii. We were really tired after that so we went to bed early at about 11pm.

June 16th- my family and me woke up extremely early because we had a big day ahead of us. We wanted to explore the island and visit the biggest active volcano in the world, Mauna Loa. When we woke up we got ready and went to the volcano. The Mauna Loa is a shield volcano, which means it is sloping volcano that has really fast and smooth lava flow. It was so interesting hearing all the different things about the volcano and actually seeing it up close. That was my favorite thing about the trip. If I ever went back I would want to go see that again because it was so interesting. W Our flight left at 7 and we got home at about 1am. I am very glad we went and I had a good time there.

  49. My trip would start with a flight to Tokyo with a layover in Los Angeles. I would spend the first day wandering around Tokyo and seeing all the tourist sights like the Imperial Palace and Tokyo Tower. My Hotel would be a cheap one in the Taito district of the city. After the first day I would head out to Mount Fuji by bus. I would begin the 5 hour or so climb in the afternoon so I would reach the summit by the evening to see the sunset. I would pay the 5000 yen to sleep in the heated huts on the summit and wake in the morning to see the sunrise. Afterwards I would hike back down and catch another bus back to Tokyo. I would gather the rest of my belongings from the hotel and head back to the airport to catch my flight home.

  52. Day 1: The first day is dedicated to traveling. I will be going to the DFW airport to fly out to the Big Island of Hawaii, Kona to be specific. The flight is about 7 hours and 28 minutes away. Also, on the flight there since I have so much time I will be taking a nap and doing some research of the volcano that I will be visiting. I want to know some general information of the volcano that I will be visiting beforehand. I will then arrive to the airport, take a taxi to my hotel, eat dinner there and get some rest for the next day.
Day 2: I will wake up, take a shower, and have breakfast. After that I will get all my stuff ready to go on my Volcano adventure. I will take a bus all the way to Hualalai Volcano. (A shield volcano) It’s a little far but I will be looking at my surrounding on the bus to learn more about the Island. Once I get there, I will be taking a tour of the volcano. I want to get as much information on this volcano and the people hosting the tour will know a lot about it since they’re experienced. After that I will have lunch then keep looking at the volcano on my own. I will take pictures and write down things that I’ve learned about the volcano. After that I will go back to the hotel, get on my computer, and find out other facts about the volcano that I did not learn while visiting. Once I’m done with my research I will eat at the hotel and get some rest.
Day 3: This is my last day in Hawaii. After eating breakfast and showering, I will prepare myself for my helicopter ride. I will get there by taxi. On my helicopter ride I will get a birds eye view of the volcano and get a better view of the inside of the volcano since I couldn’t see before. Once I’m done with my helicopter ride I will go to the beach and enjoy my last hours on the beach. I will then go back to my hotel, shower, and get my stuff ready for my plane ride home. On the plane I will take a nap and go over all the facts I learned on my trip.

  53. I am visiting the several volcanos that make up the Hawaiian islands.

I am flying first class on American Airlines on April 14th for round trip $4823. The flight is just over 8 hours, and arrives in the early afternoon due to the four hour time difference.

Once I'm there, I will go on a day long volcano hiki from Wakiki. It lasts all day, and involved hiking around previously cooled and dried lava flows from the volcano on Oahu.

While I am there, I will also go on a Pearl Harbor tour for $71. Ill get to see the USS Missouri, Arizona, and the base that was attacked at the start of WWII.

Finally, I will go to the USGS Hawaiian Volcano Observatory. They mostly moniter Mauna Loa, but maintain research and data on all of the active hawaiian Volcanos, as well as monitor changes in tectonic movement of the island chain.

My last day there will be visiting the national parks and ocean ponds where many interesting tidal pond creatures have evolved. While here, I'll be able to spend time on the beach, etc, for a more relaxed final day in Hawaii.

  54. If I were going to visit a volcano I would go to one in Hawaii because Hawaii’s volcanoes are where it’s at, I would choose to visit the Kilauea volcano.
1st day: I will fly 8 hours to Hawaii. When I arrive I will check in to my hotel and get everything I need so that my stay/visit to the volcano is wonderful and I am prepared.
2nd day: I will wake up early, rent a nice car, get my camera, and drive to Kilauea volcano. This volcano is located at the Hawaii Volcanoes National Park. I would take a trip to the museum and learn even more about this beautiful volcano and when it last erupted.
Later on I will go to the actual site of the volcano and get to see the volcano in my own eyes for the fist time. I would get to see what seems to be a huge crater in the middle of the volcano.
3rd day: I would probably spend my day gathering together my pictures and making sure everything looks great. I would fly back to DFW later that night and when I arrived home I would work on a scrapbook of my visit to Hawaii and the Kilauea volcano.

Day 1: I would depart from DFW National Airport at 6 AM for a 7 hour flight into Lihue Airport, the nearest airport to Kilauea, Hawaii. I would arrive at 1:00 PM, my time, but with the 4 hour time change, I’d start my day in Lihue at 9:00 AM. After arriving, I will rent a car from Hertz and check in to a hotel close to the airport, unpack, and get my room situated in 30 minutes max. at 9:45 I will head off and drive South down Hawaii’s East Rift, visiting a chain of shield and cinder cone volcanoes (from Heiheiahulu to Makaopuhi). The East Rift Zone is nearly covered in lava from past eruptions dating four-hundred years back. There are only a few small, isolated patches where the lava flow is visible from the surface. I would plan to go and find these patches across the East Rift Zone and take pictures of them. This should take up my entire morning so I soon after, I would find a place to eat near the Southern tip of Kilauea. After I eat lunch, I would drive to the other end of the East Rift Zone to Cape Kumukahi. Cape Kumukahi is covered in lava rocks from previous eruptions across the rift. I would spend my entire afternoon on the beach and in the water. Around 6:00 PM, I would leave and grab dinner back Lihue. I’d be back in my hotel no later than 8:00 PM and crash for the night.
Day 2: Since I had an early flight and a busy day, I’d get up around 9:00 AM and go grab breakfast somewhere on the coast. Around 1:00 PM, I would go take a tour of the Kilauea Volcano. I’d learn about the culture as well as the activity of the volcano. “Kilauea” means “spewing” and is rightly named for it is the most active of the 5 volcanoes in Hawaii. I’d spend my afternoon visiting the Kalapana Viewing Areas and venturing throughout the Hawaii Volcanoes National Park. My visit would end around 4:00 PM or 5:00 PM and I would go out to eat somewhere on the coast, again. For the remainder of the night, I would pull out my D&D Ukulele and play that for the remainder of the night.
Day 3: I would wake up around 8:00 AM and take a Lava Boat Tour. On the Lava Boat Tour, I would sail around the Kilauea volcano and watch the magma and lava spew into the sea. Pretty cool! After my tour, I would return my car by 2:00 PM to have time for my 3:00 PM flight back home. I would arrive around 1:00 AM.

I plan to take a trip to the Ragang Volcano in the Philippines. On the first day, I will take a flight from DFW to the Philippines, specifically in the southern part of Mindanao. When I get to the Philippines, I will go to a nearby hotel and unpack. By the time I get to the Philippines, it will be dark and I will call it a day once I get settled. The next day, I'll wake up bright and early to travel to the volcano. Because it is active, I will try to get a guide since it is a popular travel destination, which indicates travel guides should be nearby. Some interesting facts about the volcano that I would have learned during the trip include: it is still one of the active volcanoes in the Philippines, it is the seventh tallest mountain in the Philippines, the volcano is part of the Ring of Fire, and its last eruption was in 1916. After a day of exploring and learning about the volcano, I'll head back to the hotel and just eat and chill. On the third day, I'll go back to the mountain and just hike around the base, maybe have a picnic in a safe area; basically, just another relaxing day near the volcano. Once it gets dark, I'll head back to my hotel, pack up, and head back to the airport to take a flight home!

  57. Nick Valenta:

First my girlfriend and I will get on American Airlines and fly from DFW to Portland, Oregon, which is 50 miles away from the infamous stratovolcano Mt. St. Helens, on February 21, 2013 in the morning. This will give all day Thursday, Friday, and Saturday to explore before our flight home Sunday morning.
Upon arriving in Portland, my mom’s friend Peter will pick us up, and after eating, we will journey to this active volcano. He was able to acquire a special hikers pass, which will allow us to reach the top of this crater. Peter, Renay, and I are feeling adventurous, so we are participating in a multi day hike.
Our instructor, Stevey, is great. He showed us breath taking views of the crater, Mount Adams, Mount Margaret, and Spirit Lake. Renay and I, not being from around there, were naïve enough to not wear sunscreen and quickly found that we were paying the price, but Stevey luckily packed extra for us. Eating at an elevation in a tent by cooking over a fire is surreal. The weather was freezing at night, but Stevey and Peter brought a portable heater.
Although the crater was merely a bunch of grey, Spirit Lake and the surrounding mountains were picturesque. Here is a picture of the actual crater: http://mountsthelens.com/360-degree-view.html
Then Sunday Peter drove us back to the airport and we were headed home with a new appreciation of volcanoes.

  58. Mount Vesuvius

Day 1: Leave from DFW early in the morning and arrive in Naples late at night. I would stay the night in a hotel while I planned my events for the next day, including joining other visitors on a tour of Mt. Vesuvius. I'm sure that there are going to be other visitors there as well due to how famous the volcano is for it's eruption in 79 AD which wiped out Pompeii.

Day 2: I plan to spend at least half my day at Mt. Vesuvius, studying and observing the ancient volcano. I will bring food and water so I am able to stay longer. Since Mt. Vesuvius is open to visitors, I might encounter other people going to see it as well, which would be interesting if I could learn something about the volcano from them if they knew anything. There is access by road to within 200 metres (660 ft) of the summit, but thereafter access is on foot only. There is a spiral walkway around the mountain from the road to the crater which I will take. The volcano is 4,203 ft. high and was formed from convergent boundaries. After I spend the day learning about the famous stratovolcano (or composite volcano), I will go back to my hotel and rest for the night.

Day 3) For my last day near Mt. Vesuvius, I will revisit the base of Mt. Vesuvius and have a nice picnic there and do a little hiking. I will chill out and enjoy the scenery a while and marvel in the magnificence of the volcano.

  59. The Majority of the first day of my trip would consist of travel due to the 12 and a half hour flight from DFW to Sicily to see Mount Etna (Stratovolcano). Once arriving, I would acquire a cab to take me to the Messenion Hotel where I would be staying for the duration of the trip. Once arriving there, i would unload my things and grab a bite to eat before heading to bed in preparation for a long day ahead of me. After a 7:30 wake up call, i would head downstairs and partake in the Hotel's complimentary breakfast before venturing to see Mount Etna. Upon completion of eating, i would take a cab to Parco dell' Etna (Etna Park) which is an hour and 40 minute car ride. Once at the base of the mountain, I would proceed to take a tour of the 11,000 ft piece of rock. Because Mount Etna is continuously active, the group would not be allowed to go newer the top but could still feel the feet from a couple miles down. After the tour was over (around 3:00pm), i would take a private helicopter tour of the top of the volcano as to get a better look at its insides (understand why Etna stands for "furnace"). After all touring was completed, id make the journey back to the hotel to recuperate for my final day in Sicily. The third day would be mostly focused on site seeing in the small town of Messina where i was staying. One of these sites would be the Norman Cathedral. It is said that this cathedral was " Initially built in the 12th century, the cathedral was destroyed on more than one occasion from earthquakes, fire and bombings, but has been rebuilt, and is a work of art..." Once i was finished par oozing through the Cathedral, I would make my way over to the Fontana di Orione. The Fontana di Orione is a gorgeous 16th century fountain dedicated to the people who founded the small town of Messina. By this time it would be time for lunch and so i would grab a quick bite to eat before heading back to the hotel to gather my belongings and making my way to the airport to head back home.

  61. Things wouldn’t get any better, I told myself while I read my invitation letter to Ecuador to visit Cotopaxi to gather information and data about that specific type of volcano. On the third day, I gathered all of my belongings and I headed back to DFW, but I would never forget that experience of standing next to the most active volcano in the world.

  62. On my vacation I would visit Mount St. Helens because Mount St. Helens is famous for its catastrophic eruption on May 18, 1980. The shear power that still lies within and the ash explosions and pyroclastic flows that this volcano unleashed is very fascinating. Also it is still an active volcano so seeing it in person would be an unforgetable experience.

To begin my trip I will depart early in the morning at 8 on a flight out of DFW. I will fly 3 hours and 15 minutes up to Washington. When I arrive I will check into my hotel then head to the Forest Learning Center near Mount St. Helens where I will begin my hike around the mountain and explore the areas around the volcano.

On day two I will head back to the mountain and take the helicopter tour to get a up close look at the massive stratovolcano. This way I can also get an arial view of the mountain. After the helicopter ride I will hike back down a certain part of the mountain.

On day three I will admire Mount St. Helens from the volcanocam that has a view of the whole volcano. I will finally fly back home to Texas after having these incredible experiences.

Day 1- Wake up at 8am, Drive to DFW Airport be there at 12pm. Take off at 1pm. Fly into LA be there by 2, then at 5pm fly from LA to Kona Airport and arrive at 7:30pm. Check into airport hotel. Go to sleep
Day 2- Wake up around 8am have breakfast go rent a car and be on the road by 9:30 to Mauna Kea. It would be a 2 hour and 12 min drive.
Day 3- Wake up at 6:30am have breakfast head to Kona Airport for my flight at 9:20am, fly to LA land at 5:25am then fly from LA at 6:30am to DFW and arrive at 11:35am.

Mauna Kea, Hawaii's highest volcano, reaches 4205 m, only 35 m above its neighbor, Mauna Kea is capped by a profusion of cinder cones and pyroclastic deposits. Mauna Kea's rift zones are less pronounced than on neighboring volcanoes, and the eruption of voluminous, late stage pyroclastic material has buried much of the early basaltic shield volcano.

  64. Day 1: I will depart from DFW airport early and fly to Japan to visit Mount Fuji. Mount Fuji is a dormant, composite volcano located on the border between Yamanashi and Shizuoka. It takes about 13 hours to get there on a direct flight. I will arrive late afternoon at the airport then I will then catch a cab and drive 2 ½ hours to Shizuoka. There I will check into my hotel and plan a trip to Mt. Fuji for tomorrow.

Day 2: I will wake up in the morning and get ready for the day. I will then grab some breakfast then head out to visit the mountain. When I arrive I will see tons a people because it is such a popular tourist attraction. I will take a walk around the crater of Mount Fuji. This only takes about an hour so then I will continue to explore the mountain and take lots of photos to share with family and friends for when I return. I will spend the day at Mount Fuji and then return back to my hotel to get ready to leave in the morning.

Day 3: I will wake up early and admire the view of Mount Fuji from my balcony. I will pack all of my belongings and catch a cab for another 2 ½ hour drive to the airport and a 13 hour flight home. I will then share my experience and what I learned with family and friends.

  68. I have always dreamed of going to Italy, and studying Vesuvius would be the perfect excuse to visit.

Right after school let out, I would take a flight from DFW to the Naples Airport (NAP). We'd leave at 4:10pm from DFW and arrive at NAP at 4:40pm on that Saturday. I'd explore Naples at night time, of course getting a taste of Italian food. We would stay at the Grand Hotel La Medusa that night and then again on Sunday night. We'd take a rental car to Vesuvius on Sunday morning.Vesuvius's easiest route is walking, so we would dedicate the Sunday to that. According to the tour I found, we would visit "the highest point of Mt. Vesuvius crater, descent into the crater, panoramic walk atop Vesuvius, with spectacular views of the Bay of Naples" (Walks). After spending the day (including a packed lunch) around Vesuvius, we'd relax at the hotel until the next morning when I'd take the rental car back to the airport and fly home, arriving late Monday night.

Due to its fame throughout the world and the allure of the Roman World, Italy is certainly a desirable vacation country. Naturally, choosing a volcano to visit simply means choosing a volcano in Italy. Vesuvius, consequently, is the perfect volcano to visit.

Day 1: I will wake up at the crack of dawn and go catch an 8:00 flight from the DFW Airport. Upon arriving at Naples Airport around 24 hours after takeoff from DFW, my trip will commence. After a 20 minute drive from the airport to my hotel, Napoli Centrale Hotel, I will go out for the night to explore the country that I have always longed to see. Walking the streets of Naples, however, cannot even hold a candle to what is in store on Day 2.

Day 2: I will take a cab at 9 a.m. to the Tourism Center at Vesuvius. Thankfully, because Vesuvius is only about 6 miles east of Naples, the ride will be short and the fare will be cheap. After arriving, I will begin a tour through the Vesuvius Tourism Center, which begins at 10 a.m. The tour is geared towards those with interests in studying the science and history of the volcano, so I will eagerly absorb the information that my guide teaches me about the eruption in 79 AD at Pompeii, why it's a cone volcano, and the potential danger of eruption. The online description of the tour also alludes to a trip to the highest point of Vesuvius, via helicopter. I will most certainly pay the price necessary to experience such a sight. Lunch will be provided by the tour service, and I will leave Vesuvius at 6 p.m. to travel back to my hotel for the evening.

Day 3: I will wake up at the crack of dawn, eat breakfast at the McDonald's in the lobby of my hotel, and take a cab to the Naples Airport to catch a 7 a.m. flight all the way back to DFW Airport.

  71. A lot of my family lives in the northwestern part of the United States, I would most likely go to Mt. St. Helens in Washington.

Day 1: I wake up early in the morning and head to the airport to catch an early morning flight to Portland. Since the flight usually takes around 3 hours, that will be my morning.
After i arrive at the Portland airport, i will rent a car in which i will drive all the way up to some campsites at the bottom of the volcano. On the way to the campsites, i'll stop at a grocery store and pick up some snacks. At the campsite, I will pop up my tent and sleep there for the night.

Day 2: I will wake up in the morning and make something equivalent to a tuna sandwich. After I eat, i will take my hiking pack and hike all the way up the harry's ridge trail.
After enjoying this awesome hiking experience, i will set up camp there, snap a few pictures and maybe make some vlogs. I will spend the night in my tent.

Day 3: When i wake up, i'll cook some beans and feast on such a nutritious meal. After my banquet, i'll head down the mountain to my car. I'll pack up all my stuff in the back of the rental and drive back to the airport where a flight to DFW will be waiting for me.

  72. I would love to go visit Mt. Rainer in Seattle, Washington again! Mt. Rainer is a massive stratovolcano with the summit at 14,411 ft. Mt. Rainer is considered one of the most dangerous mountains beacuse of it's large amount of glacial ice, and the fact that is it still active. I went with my grandparents when I was 4 years old, but I don't remember much. All I have left of the trip are pictures, but looking back on them, I am now able to appericiate the true beauty of the mountain and all it's surroundings.

If I was to leave tomorrow, I would take a 9AM flight out of DFW. However, Seattle is 2 hours behind us, and the flight is 3 and a half hours, so I'd be arriving in Seattle around 10:30. The first thing I would do is take a rental car and head straight to my cabin, "The Dancing Bear Lodge" in Mt. Rainer's National Park and unpack my things. I would then head out to have brunch at the Summit House which is a restraunt on top of Crystal Mountain including a relaxing ride up the Mt. Rainier Gondola. I'd spend the rest of my first day exploring Seattle.

On the second day I would wake up and eat a warm breakfast before traveling to Elbe to ride the Mt. Rainier Scenic Railroad. This is an 18-mile ride on a vintage train through the countryside surrounding the moutains. After this I'd hike over to Myrtle Falls and walk around the gourge. This place is one of the most popular in Mount Rainier National Park.

On the third day, most importantly, I will visit Mt. Rainer! Unfortunatley, there are no hikes on the acutal mountain, but the Mt. Rainer National Park provides dozens of hikes with a beautiful view of Mt. Rainer. I would take the 4 hour day hike through the White River Campground which has breathtaking views. I would then go back to my cabin, and take a 5pm flight back to DFW, arriving around 11pm.

  73. Hawaii is one of the most visited tourist destinations, but not just because of her beautiful beaches and culture and tradition. Hawaii is also know for the plethora of shield volcanoes located throughout the islands. Simply choosing one volcano would be difficult, but the one that I would insist on visiting would be Mauna Loa.

Day 1: I would wake up at the crack of dawn in order to catch an American Airlines flight to LAX. After that 2 1/2 hour flight, I would grab breakfast and wait for my next 5 1/2 hour flight to Kona that left around noon. Once I arrived in Hawaii it would be around 2:30, due to the Pacific time change. I would then rent a car and drive about 10 minutes to Hilo to check into my hotel, Castle Hilo Hawaiian Hotel. I would then get settled in, and take a walk around the Hotel's garden outside. Later on I would find dinner, and go to bed.

Day 2: I would wake up around 9 am and have breakfast at my hotel. I would then get ready to venture to Mauna Loa. Around 10 am I would leave and drive to Mount Mauna Loa, where I would meet up with my tour guide. We would tour the volcano until about 1, and then we would stop for lunch. From there we would part ways and I would relax on the beach until dinner time.

Day 3: I would wake up very early in order to catch an early flight to California. I would arrive in California around noon, and then arrive home in Dallas around 5.

  74. I chose this trip to Hawaii because I have actually taken it before and absolutely loved this trip.

Day 1: Wake up and drive to DFW airport, and head out to San Diego, California at 9 a.m. After arriving in San Diego I would grab my bags and walk to my next gate for my connecting flight to Honolulu where I would arrive at about 2:00 p.m. Once I arrive in Honolulu I would load my things up into a cab to drive to my hotel that is located at the bottom of Kilauea. I would check into my room and drop my things off then go down to the beach for a couple of hours to relax. Then, I would go find something for dinner and then head back to my hotel for a goodnight sleep.

Day 2: I would wake up around 8 a.m. and grab my hiking gear to head up to see the volcano. I would see most of the volcano and then grab some lunch before heading back down to the hotel to shower and get ready for a laua. I would head out and eat dinner at the laua. I would get back to the hotel late that night and get a good night sleep.

Day 3:I would wake up early at about 7 a.m. and pack my things to leave for the airport. I would board and leave for San Diego. I would arrive in San Diego and have about an hour layover before flying out to DFW. I would arrive about 8 p.m. and get home for the night.

  75. I chose to visit Maui because I went there this summer and loved it.
Day 1: would Mostly consist of travailing since it takes 8 hours to fly from DFW to Maui. After landing i would check into my hotel and then eat something. Then probably just hang around the hotel and relax for the first day.

Day 2: I would wake up at 5 am eat a big breakfast and head to Haleakala National park and spend the whole day there. First i would watch the sun rise because it is beautiful. next take a helicopter tour of the volcano around 7. After I would like to hike around the volcano and maybe get to get really close and look inside if they let you do that. Next up would have to be a lunch break. Then after im done with that i would take part in the hikes that they have around the mountains mostly because its really good exercise. After it should be around like 4 and ill be exhausted so i would head back to the hotel and sleep so i can get up early.

Day 3: Wake up around 6 and head to the volcano one last time before i head home. After get to the airport around like 9 leave by 10 and be home in coppell by 5 or so.

The destination I chose to visit is Mt. Kilauea, located on Big Island, Kilauea, Hawaii, 4,000 ft. above sea level. This volcano is the most active and most visited volcano in the world. It is a shield volcano. The Hawaiian name "Kīlauea" means "spewing" or "much spreading," apparently in reference to the lava flows that it erupts since it is continually erupting.
Day 1: Beginning my trip, on the first day of being in Kilauea, Hawaii, I have decided to attend the North Shore Private Charters. This oceanic expedition will depart from the Anini Beach where we will begin traveling along the Na Pali Coast, during which we will pass Mt. Kilauea. On this private charter, the captain will discuss island history, facts and information of everything we pass. Later this day, I will see the flowing lava on the island by visiting the Chain of the Craters Road. The Chain of the Craters Road is an 18.3 mile scenic drive in the Hawai'i Volcanoes National Park which has many scenic stops, side trails and other scenic drives. “The drive starts at a fascinating stand of Lava Trees and continues through a large assortment of things to see and do including a huge petroglyph field, and then ends where the lava crosses the road at the ocean.” This road travels through Mt. Kilauea’s active lava flow.
Day 2: Furthermore, on day 2, I will again discover the wonders behind Mt. Kilauea’s active lava flow. Because Mt. Kilauea is an active volcano, with an eruption that began in 1983 which continues to produce lava flow today. The latest volcanic eruption was on Feb. 25, 2008. On March 5 of that same year, the lava of this eruption reached the ocean off the Puna coast. This created a brilliant color and light display. The Civil Defense officials of Hawaii have set up a Viewing Center, that I will visit, placed for the public to observe this display. This viewing center is located in The Hawaii Volcanoes National Park...a park that exhibits the results of long years of volcanism, migration and evolution, and also the views of volcanic landscapes, most especially Mt. Kilauea, the world’s most active volcano.
Day 3: Although Mt. Kilauea’s mild climate tends to be 70 degrees all year round, the volcano itself can be an unpleasant place to visit if it is “too active” on the day you travel. Depending on the safety of the volcano for that specific day I am travelling, it is always nice to take a hike near the accessible, convenient “drive-in volcano”, Mt. Kilauea. I will park at the Visitor Center and my day will begin there. I have chosen to travel on two trails. One is simpler, about .25 miles in length. It is called the Thurston Lava Tube; takes you on a 20 minute walk through a tree fern forest and a prehistoric lava tube which are very prominent in Mt. Kilauea. As quoted from the website, “Lava tubes are natural conduits through which lava travels beneath the surface of a lava flow, expelled by a volcano during an eruption”. The second trail I would blaze is far more challenging and much longer in length, about 3.5 miles one way. It’s name is Halema ‘uma’ u. The description includes, “Descends 400 feet through rainforest, cross Kilauea Caldera, to Halem ‘uma’ u Crater. Trails end at the crater or return via Byron Ledge or Crater Rim Trail. Of interest: Plants, birds, insects, pahoehoe lava flows, steam vents, spatter ramparts, crater, and caldera. Prepare for hot, dry, wet, and windy weather. Beware of sulfur fumes”.

The volcano I decided to visit was Mauna Kea. It is a shield volcano that reaches 4,200 meters. Some of the world's largest telescopes are located on this volcano, making it an interesting place to visit for multiple purposes.
    June 18th-
I would go to Hawaii with Mrs. B :) We would depart from DFW airport and head for Hawaii. Arrive around 3 pm and check in to the Mauna Kea Beach Hotel. After that, we would head to the beach to relax for a little bit and meet some locals. For dinner, we would go to a seafood restaurant to try the fresh food and Mrs. B would get some nice tofu. We would then go out and enjoy our night on vacation! Monte would stay in the hotel with a babysitter.

    June 19th-
We would wake up around 10 am to prepare to visit Mauna Kea. Because the summit is so high up, it would take about a 2 hour drive to reach the top. Altitude sickness is another factor. Traveling 14,000 above sea level is very grueling, and Monte would get carsick. Instead, we would take a helicopter to get a better view of the whole volcano. This would take up the whole day. At around 4 we would have scuba lessons and explore the coral reefs and water falls of Hawaii. Monte will find a nice tree and take a nap in it. That night, around 7 pm we would participate in a traditional Luau, but we would not eat the pig. After a long day we would want to get some rest so we would probably stay in and get ready for day 3. But Monte would probably go out with the friends he made at the volcano.

    June 20-
    Wake up 10:30
    Brunch 11:15
The last day of our vacation would be dedicated to relaxing on the beach and getting Monte a tan. That evening, we would take surfing lessons on the beach and become pro surfers. That night we would go to a bon fire on the beach and enjoy our last night with monte and our new friends.

    June 21-
    Wake up- 9
Take the shuttle to the airport- 11
    Depart- 2
Arrive at DFW and Mendel would pick us up!!

  78. Day 1: I am going to be resting for most of today while going to the city and asking questions about the Cinder Cone volcano I came to study. my questions I will ask are the following: What is the difference from any other volcano? Is it big?

Day 2: After gathering my information from yesterday I have collected the following data.
Lava erupts from a vent in the Earth’s crust and sprays melted rock fragments into the air. After this gravity pulls all of the debri called, scoria, down and on to the ground into piles of glassy gas-filled chunks. These are the smallest type of volcano.

Now I will venture out on my own to find a Cinder Cone of my own.
Looks like it took longer than I thought for this journey, so I have decided to stay the night here in a cave I found. Hope I’m lucky tomorrow!

Day 3: Good morning world! I woke up and only began walking for about 30 min to come across sparks in the distance. It being the smallest I was able to keep distance yet remain close enough to get a really cool picture! http://www.sfu.ca/geog/geog351fall06/group06/Term%20Project/Volcanoes/Document%20Pictures/eruption.jpg

  79. Day 1: I would arrive in the airport of Washington State and take it easy for the first day and gather information about Mountain Saint Helen. I would go around town looking for valuable information about Mountain Saint Helen such as Museums dedicated to the volcano. Also book a bus ride ticket to Skamania Town where Mt. Saint Helen is located for tomorrow's early travel. Then Head into a nearby local motel for the night

Day 2: I will wake up around 3 am and prepare for a long bus ride to the Skamania Town to arrive later in noonish time. from my research I should be expecting a huge show. Around noon, I will arrive to the Skamania Town and gaze upon the beautiful summit mountain. In that town I will find the Saint Mountain Helicopter tour and request a reservation for the next day. Also continue to gather my information on mount Helen. Then Head into a nearby local motel for the night.

Day 3: Wake up early in the morning to prepare myself for the extraordinary flight of my life around Mountain Saint Helen. This flight will include...
    View the amazing Ghost Forests
Watch for the Elk Herds - hundreds of elk can be seen at times
First hand look at the Mud Flow Devastation
    Recent Forest Recovery and Harvest
Mount St. Helens Lava Dome - commonly steaming
"Jaws of the Dragon" Crater Entrance
    Spirit lake
    Mount Rainier in the distance

The volcano we will be visiting on our fun filled 3 day adventure is located in the Sundra straight between the islands of Java and Sumatra in Indonesia. This volcano is none other than the legendary Krakatoa.
DAY 1: On the first day of our trip we will fly from DFW Airport and land on the mainland of Indonesia. We will relax on the beach and mentally prepare for our endevour to the volvanic island. We will have fun in the local village, get some great good, a litlle something to drink and call it a night.
DAY 2: We will wake up at about 10 A.M.. Afterr rubbing the eye boogers out of your eyes and getting dressed, we will head out for some delicous Indonesian breakfast. We will head for the island at around noon by boat. We will circle the Island a couple times to make sure it is safe as Krakatoa is still very active. Volcanologists predict that the next erruption from Krakatoa will be just as powerful if not more than the last violent blast, which is recorded as the biggestblast from a volcano ever. We will then approach the ashy beach with caution. We will then begin to scale up the dangerous volcano. We will sight see for about an hour before we must head back to the mainland because we can not risk anything. We will enjoy the rest of our night with the local islanders and celebrate our succesful journey.
DAY 3: We will sleep in. once everyone is awake we will grab some breakfast and sit on the beach watching the volcanic island to see if we can watch any mild explosions as small non violent erruptions are common with the growing volcano. At around 3 o clock we will head for the airport and begin our long flight back home.

  82. Departure out of DFW: 7:45am
Time of arrival: 3:15pm in Honolulu

When I arrive in Honolulu is take a boat to the Big Island or Hawaii island. Then go to my hotel, Wyndham Mauna Loa Village and rest. Then I would visit the local vinyards and family owned shops and buy some stuff for collectibles.
After lunch, I would go and see the biggest and most active volcano there is, Mauna Loa.

  83. The Krakatoa volcanoes erupted and exploded in 1883, causing massive tsunamis and killing at least 36,417 people, and destroying over two-thirds of Krakatoa island. The explosion is considered to be the loudest sound ever heard in modern history, with reports of it being heard up to 3,000 miles from its point of origin. Krakatoa is a volcanic island in the Sunda Strait between the islands of Java and Sumatra in Indonesia. The name is also used for the surrounding island group and the volcanoes as a whole.

I decided to go to Indonesia because i’ve always thought that it and the area around was beautiful and intriguing. I'm bringing my good friend, Emily Bernard, with me.

Emily and I would have a flight out of the DFW airport at 11 a.m. thursday morning, June 17th to kick off our summer. The flight to Indonesia is long with connecting flights so we decided to leave early to get our full 3 days in. We would check in at our hotel, Krakatoa Nirwana Resorts, and explore a bit if we weren’t too tired, then go to sleep.

    Day 1:
We would wake up around 9 and head to a small breakfast restaurant to start off our day. Our resort is directly across the water from Krakatoa and it makes for a wonderful view. We would then begin our trip to hike up around the base of the Krakatoa volcano. We would hike all day and explore all around the area, looking for all the nature and animals that are abundant.

    Day 2:
The second day we would relax closer to our hotel. It is enclosed by tons of coconut trees, which are a characteristic of the region. It also includes coral and white sand beaches facing the Sunda Straits. We would snorkel around 5 pm which is a featured activity from our resort. The diving site is close to our hotel, just under 30 minutes away, located in the Merak Belantung Bay. This allows us to explore of what is left from Mount Krakatau’s caldera. We will go to Anak Krakatau – the island that rises after the mountain’s eruption almost two centuries ago. This program lets us discover the site’s underwater beauty, with a variety of marine organisms, reefs and unique black sand. We would return to the hotel after a full day of this.

    Day 3:
We’ll wake up around 4:30 am to prepare for our tour of the day. We want to explore more around the actual volcano, probably becoming more curious after having it lurking above us the previous day of our trip. We also want to see if it would be possible for us to meet some of the native islanders and speak with them about their everyday lifestyle living there and compare it to ours. We found a tour guide that will take us around the volcano in boat and let us hike it as well. We’ll meet up with the tour at 5 am and eat breakfast with them, then go on the tour and return at about 4:30 pm and take a nap. Then around 6 we will walk through the village and explore. Then we will get a good nights sleep and depart the next morning at 8 am!
Something really interesting that I found was that the dramatic skyline in Edvard Munch's The Scream (1893) is reported by some historians to be based on the global atmospheric effects as seen by him over Oslofjord, Norway shortly after the eruptions. (Picture # 3)

  84. Hawaii is a huge tourist attraction and a well known landmark around the world. Not only does it have beautiful beaches and interesting culture but the history of how the island was created is a great story in itself.

Day 1: I would start my trip by waking up bright and early around 6 AM to catch a 8 am flight at DFW airport. the flight to cali would be about 2 1/2 hours. I would arrive at LAX to stop and rest my legs before the final flight. I would use this time to relax and eat something. After that, i would board a 5 hour flight to Kona. This is a very long and boring flight. I would arrive in Kona at around 4 or 5. The first day is always about getting everything set up and finding your hotel or where youre going to stay for the night. After leaving the airport i would drive to the hotel im going to stay at, un pack my bags and go out to eat somewhere then go back to the hotel and sleep.

Day 2: I would wake up around 9 the next morning and immediately eat breakfast at the hotel and head to look at the volcanoes. It would be about a 30 minute to an hour drive out to where the volcano is, in this case the volcano is Mauna Loa. When we get there we will be guided closer and closer, through the dark ashy rock, to the 13,679 ft active volcano. I would snap pictures with family and friends and feel amazed by the sight i have witnessed.

Day 3: I would wake up early around 6 am to catch an 8 am flight back to L.A.
